knowing what you and your fiance like would help with the ideas? what nationality are you guys(traditions can be important) what kind of wedding will you have traditional in a church, on a beach, in vegas etc...cause they should probably match.
live bands are great, don't get a dj. i work in a functions department and djs are crappy.
-get a magician..everyone loves those!
-try to steer away from white tablecloths...they are probably more expensive but look way cooler
-you could do a backwards three course meal and have dessert first, main then entree...
-lucky dip tables (aside from the important people parents, siblings, MC etc.) get couples/people to choose a number as they walk in the door, they could be sitting anywhere
i'm way tired at the moment, maybe ill come back to this question tomorrow and put more in...my career aspiration in event manager so this is usually quite easy for me
good luck

Make the table decorations yourself. Make the favors yourself. Use a bird cage for any cards that you receive. Guests can just slip them between the bars of the cage. Cut the number of people invited to the reception. That's the best way to cut costs. Don't serve alcohol. Have cupcakes instead of a wedding cake or do the top two layers of the cake as styrofoam and a small layer as part of the bottom layer for you to cut. Then serve sheet cakes as the wedding cake. Guests won't know the difference as the cake is cut and then brought out. Serve finger foods instead of a hot buffet or sit down dinner. Put your favorite music on CD's and then have a friend play them through a sound system to cut out the cost of the DJ. Use your car instead of a limo for transportation from the church to the reception site. Have a friend drive you. See if the reception site will give you a reduced cost if you cut the number of hours that you rent the facility.

Do an entirely themed CIRCUS WEDDING----you and the hubby dress as CLOWN bride and grooms... (still can wear wedding dress and tux but wear full clown makeup and wigs and hats), and all brides maids and ushers can dress up but also be in clownface and wigs... have the officiant dress as the RING MASTER with red coat, black pants and top hat...(costumes can be rented from a costume store)... Have your reception in a TENT outdoors and have the inside decorated with all different kinds of circus stuff... NO one will EVER forget that wedding EVER!!!!! You could even do a circus themed Wedding invitation....with a picture of both you and the hubby to be on the front of the invitation in clown makeup... and make your own invitations with a printer program right on your computer... it's EASY to do....I make cards and invitations all the time with mine---but anyway-- You could have the inside of the card printed up like a normal wedding invitation but put something like RECEPTION to be HELD UNDER THE BIG TOP and then say where the tent IS......

Hi, my wedding is going to be in October and one of the unique things I'm doing is getting fortune cookies for the favors. They sell them on the oriental trading company's website. The fortune paper says something like "thank you for sharing our special day with us" Try going on theknot.com for tons of other different ideas. You can even look at pics that people posted from their own weddings. Well, good luck and congrats!

Well... it really depens where you live, and how much you're willing to spend. But a really nice idea (if you arent the conservative type) is a moroccan theme. sure, its not going to be all white and everything... but the reception will look very festive and happy. just do everything tastefully ive seen a couple of moroccan wedding already. I love them.

I did a Cinderella theme. I had all the chacters on layers of cake. I had little shoes on each table in the flower decorations, and at each place setting. I would have liked to have had everyone dress for a ball but he would not go for it.

I attached a wedding video of a couple who did a Moulin Rouge themed wedding, complete with sword swallower and can-can dancers! It looked like a lot of fun!
To access it, you have to click on the "TLC" link...the idea was so popular with guests it got a TV segment on TLC!
