Will you pray and ask God if The Book of Mormon is his word?

If not... why? Read Proverbs 18:13,15 He who answereth before he heareth the whole matter, it is shame and folly unto him.
James 1:5-6

Rev R... you're quoting Galatians 1:6-9, but you definitely misinterpreted it...

It says: though we or an angel preach ANOTHER GOSPEL... it does not say angels cannot bring messages to earth. The Book of Mormon does not "preach another gospel" it is the same gospel... it is the gospel of Christ.

single eye: The Apocrypha is admittedly the word of God mixed with the philosophies of men...

I have read some of it... and some of it's of God and some of it's not, just as it claims to be!

Dusty Scribe... that's just your opinion. I respect that, but that's all it is your opinion.

Pumped up w: there is lots of evidence for the Book of Mormon... just not as much as there is for the Bible...1. The Book of Mormon doesn't even cover a third of the amount of time the Bible does. 2. The illustration you used is very shaky... carbon dating is very inacurate.

3. here are some sites that have lots of evidence...http://www.jefflindsay.com/BMEvidences.shtml and http://www.fairlds.org/ and http://maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/publications/jbmsmain.php there are more, but there's quite a bit of info on these sites.

I'll just add to the Bible is the Gospel debate. Bible means collection of books or library. There are a lot of scriptures saying you can't add to the Gospel. The most prominent one is in the Book of Revelation. But the Book of Revelation really wasn't the last book written in the Bible, just put at the back (meaning stuff was added to the Bible after that was written). The Book of Mormon doesn't add or take anything away from the Bible. It clarifies it. There are many religions out there using the same Bible teaching different things out of it. Aren't different teachings changing the Gospel? The Book of Mormon is key. Mormons teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Everything can be proven in the Bible. Different churches can prove their interpretations of the Bible as well. So if we challenge the promise in James 1:5-6 and seek wisdom, we'll get an answer. It's that simple. A lot of people look for a complicated approach to things. Lepers wouldn't go wash in the river to get rid of their leprosy because it was too easy and they didn't think it would work. I know the promise in James 1:5-6 works.

Actually, it must be admitted at the outset, that there may only be a 1,001 cases of archaeological evidence for the Bible. However, for the Book of Mormon, the precise number is still Zero!

In Time magazine, under the heading "Score One for the Bible," the following extremely fascinating information was given:

"It is one of the most dramatic events chronicled in the Old Testament, but for generations scholars have debated whether the Israelites' assault on Jericho was fact or myth. Over the past three decades, the consensus has gone against the biblical version."

"But archaeologist Bryant Wood says that the city's walls could have come tumbling down at just the right time to match the biblical account. While that does not prove that the event happened, it does give plausibility to the Old Testament version."

Time magazine continues by explaining, Wood, an ancient-pottery expert now at the University of Toronto, dates the pottery found at Jericho to 1400 B.C., which is the same time some scholars date Joshua's battle.

In addition to the new pottery findings, "A thick layer of soot at the site, which according to radioactive carbon-14 dating was laid down about 1400 B.C., supports the biblical idea that the city was burned, not simply conquered."

"Finally, Egyptian amulets found in Jericho graves can be dated to around 1400 B.C. as well. Says Wood: `It looks to me as though the biblical stories are correct,'" (March 5, 1990, p. 59).

While there continues to be mounting evidence for the historicity of the biblical record, the Book of Mormon is still seeking that first authenticated scrap of evidence.

The Bible contains numes of cities, rivers, nations, etc. - nearly all of which have been proven archaeologically to have existed.

However, while the Book of Mormon contains names of cities, rivers and nations, none have ever been found.

Ambiguous statements and grandiose claims have appeared in numerous LDS and RLDS journals, but, to date, not a single claim has been substantiated. The following is but one such example.

"The massive fortification of the site dating around AD 825 surpass anything found in Maya archaeology to date. The Book of Mormon description in Mormon 4:10 is being confirmed," (Zarahemla Record, August 1989 p. 7).

However, the Mormon 4:10 passage is dated, by the LDS Church itself, to be AD 364-375! A difference of 450 years.

While 450 years may not sound like much, it must be remembered that neither New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or even Arlington, Texas was here 450 years ago. Because something is in existence 450 years after the fact, does not necessitate that it was also there 450 years earlier.

Does it not seem strange that if, as Mormonism claims, the Bible is the scripture for the Old World, and the Book of Mormon is the scripture for the New World; and the same God inspired both, again as Mormonism claims, that the score would be, Bible 1,002 and Book of Mormon, Zero?

I ask God to teach me the truth of all things. I find that I am responsible to learn as much as I can about something before God will answer me. When I am capable of finding out for myself, God will not spoon-feed me. After I have done all that I can do for myself, then the answers will come.

Sometimes the answer comes while I am learning all I can about my question, then the sweet, peaceful feeling of the Holy Ghost confirms what I learn. Other times I have to completely research, then decide what I feel is right, then ask for the Lord to let me know. It helps to form the question as, "Please tell me if my decision/conclusion is right."

When we don't give our best effort, then we are usually on our own, as far as knowing the will or mind of God is concerned. Unfortunately, too many people do not do their part, and end up believing lies or half truths.

Have you prayed and asked God if The Apocryphon of John is His inspiration? Why not? The words in it actually came from Jesus, not some nut case trying to start a new religion based on the same old evil god of Moses.
Addition: I did not say apocrypha which is 7 more books in the catholic bible. I said the Apocryphon of John a.k.a. the Secret Gospel of John which is a single text. I hope you are not always this careless in your research.

God has clearly spoken His message in His Word. It says this: "But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that person be condemned!" (Galatians 1:8)

The "gospel" of the LDS church is a "gospel contrary" to what has been received. It is heavily works based, as opposed to grace, (see Ephesians 2:8-9, Cf. Acts 15:11) and mentions ten (as opposed to twelve) tribes of Israel. There are several other issues that I have problems with as well.

I applaud the LDS church for living out their faith before the world, but that doesn't diminish the fact it is a different gospel than the historic Christian faith.

We do. We don't have to pray to ask if the BOM is the word of God. I did when I didn't know the answer to that question. The answer I got was "read it". When I did read it, I saw what a mess the stuff is in there.

The Bible tells us in one million Thessalonians 5:21 to attempt each and every little thing. We shouldn't pray for God to coach us if the e book of Mormon is His word, yet we are to evaluate each and every little thing with the Bible to make certain if that is real. If that is not real, that is not His word. If that is real, then it quite is. however the e book of Mormon has severe doctrinal contradictions with the Bible, so they could't the two be real. Given the historic and archaeological evidence for the Bible, and the shortcoming of evidence, archaeological or otherwise, for the e book of Mormon, i could ought to assert the Bible is real and the e book of Mormon is lacking. verify out the hyperlinks decrease than the Mormon section on the 1st link decrease than.

Yes we should always pray for the gift of discernment and wait to test the spirits to see if they come from God, being too hasty can be dangerous.

There are certain things you do not need to ask about it has already been made clear.

It is said An Angel brought the "New message" to old JS

Yet the Bible clearly says even if an "Angel" brings you a message (if) it is different than what you have heard from us, then it is NOT of God.

Bible Says it, I believe it, That settles it.
