I know there are a lot of good nurses out there but have you ever met any that were mean, cold or had a bad attitude?

How did you handle it?

Did you complain or let it go?

Some good answers here. Some people here have had worse experiences than I have though...

Yes I have. What I do is just stay firm in my tone and let them know that their attitude is unappreciated. Everyone has a bad day but you should not take it out on patients or their family memebers.

Yes when I was in the hospital once, a nurse was yelling at the guy I shared the room with because he wanted help to go to the bathroom. He was an old man, but he seemed like a nice guy. I reported that nurse the next day because what she did was not right.

Yes. When my youngest daughter was in the hospital there was a nurse who was VERY mean to her, my daughter was 5 years old, pneumonia, fever 105, and had been woken up every 2 hours for vitals, THEN 20 minutes later for meds. That b*tch would NOT move the meds up 20 mins, even though the doctor said it wouldn't hurt anything, or the vitals down 20 minutes, so that she only woke my daughter once.
She came in once and my daughter didn't want to take the meds, her doctor knew she hated chewable pills, and had left word that she be given regular pills, not chewables. This b*tch nurse would NOT give the regular, THEN told my daughter, "The doctor and your daddy will be mad if you don't take your medicine," which started my, already miserable, 5 year old crying. I grabbed her arm, "escorted" her to the nurse's station and flat told them, "If this nasty B*ITCH steps foot in C******* (my daughter's name) room EVER again, I will personally kick her a.ss up to her shoulder blades." Then I told them what she said. Well, I didn't even see her again over the next 3 days.
I was LIVID! My husband works at the hospital, and was home with our oldest daughter at the time. When he came in, word of the incident had already made it to his office. He went to the CEO and filed a formal complaint.

During my Gramma's lenghy illness I met many wonderful, kind, caring nurses. During one of her hospital stays there was a male nurse who yelled at her when she asked for help to use the bathroom. Unknown to him, my Gramma, and our family the intercom was on and the head nurse heard him. Gramma was afraid to stay alone after that. I reported the incident for her and then spent the night with her in the most uncomfortable chairs ever designed. That night I asked one of the nurses I knew about the man and she told me he had been overheard and was fired on the spot. I could not let it go without a complaint, because anyone who would treat a dear sweet lady like my Grams that way had no business working with people in pain, or working in the medical field at all. Shame on him for bullying elderly people!
Peace be with you.
