I think Hindi is the closest language to Sanskrit.

sanskrt is the oldest language in the world, so all languages came from sanskrt. marathi is one of the closest, along w Hndi, Bengali, and i think Tamil has roots in Sanskrt. most Indian languages r very close to Sanskrt though.
