we've been living in nyc for years now and we wanna move out to a village near to nyc (about half and hour or an hour by train) what would be the best place for us to go? We do love the city, that's why we don't wanna be too far away but I also need some quiet and first of all we wanna live in an own house now! ANY IDEAS?

New Jersey is still affordable and has some decent areas. Weehawken is 5 minutes from NYC by bus, has great views, and yards. A 2 bed in a 2 family can cost anywhere from 1200 to 1800. Apts. are huge.

Westchester is beautiful, but pricey. Love Bronxville, Mt. Kisco. Yonkers is terrible.

Long Island is disgusting. Raised ranches as far as the eye can see, strip malls, McMansions, chain stores. Some decent areas, but these will cost you.

Long Island is a good bet. If you go right over the Queens border into Nassau County, it is about a 30-40 minuute ride to the city. Some nice towns are Bellerose (in Nassau), Floral Park, New Hyde Park, Garden City, Stewart Manor.

In Nassau County, Long Island, you could find some bargains now since the real estate market is now anemic. It's definitely a buyer's market. Take advantage of that. Whereever you go, however, Bergen County, NJ, Fairfield County, Conn. or Weschester, you are going to have to pay high school property taxes. In Queens, that's not the case.

Anywhere that close to the city is going to be expensive, but won't bleed you like the city will. Scarsdale is the most expensive city in NY - tax wise. Personally, I'd look into upper Westchester or Rockland, or Bergen county, NJ.

Well I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. Living near NYC isn't cheap as you would know. My best guess would be somewhere around the Bronxville/Tuckahoe area in lower central Westchester.

bergen county is nice, but morris county, nj is also real nice and probably 30mins-45mins by train max. you didn't say your budget, but those are some expensive areas. if you want close, but cheaper, i'm familiar with essex county, nj. check out clifton, bloomfield, belleville, nutley, lyndhurst, montclair, and south orange.
