Jesus was an Essene and they were all called Sons of God. That's what is in the Dead Sea Scrolls and they have tried to keep it hidden. But, all knowledge is coming to the forefront regardless. Good luck with your paper. Start with that and your paper will take on a life of its own. Knowing that Jesus was not the only one called the son of God opens up a whole new world and food for thought. Peace and love.

Start by saying there is no comparison.
Jesus is God, the Essenes were a religious group without originality.
Maybe John the Baptist was an Essene, but Jesus was not.
Remember also that Jesus came to die for the sins of the world.
He cannot be compared to anything or anyone.
Jesus ordered that those who would not submit to his authority must die is practiced today in our laws. Ted Bundy for instance refused to submit so he was slain before our eyes.
Jesus said when he comes he will rule with a rod of iron.
The Essenes were more like monks trying to be good.
But without Christ, no one can be saved.

There are a lot of good books out there these days about this subject. There's also some good documentaries on the History channel about Jesus and the essenes. I would start with the History channel.com (http://www.history.com/) and the Discovery channel (http://dsc.discovery.com/), and concetrate on the difference between what is actually known about Jesus and the essenes and what is conjecture.

I am a Jew-and Yeshua came from heaven as a Jew too. the Essenes were seperate from the Pharasees and Saducees-the orthodox and liberals of the day.
I can tell you Jesus/Yeshua is the Messiah that all these groups looked for
look up Isaiah 7:14 emanuel means God with us to be born from a pure young virgin by a miracle sign
Isaiah 9:6 He would be the Son of God, and the almighty God the prince of peace
Isaiah 52:13-53:12 "He will lay down his life to make atonement for our sins."
the essenes which some say Jesus was a part of -yet you will have to make your own decissions-held to the Jewish Scriptures The Tenach (called by some today the Old Testament) and rejected added books that were written to explain it-as being the Word of God -for example the Targum, and other writings.
this is how I came to know Messiah Jesus=remember Jesus is a friend of sinners.
no matter what bad choices we make Jesus doesnt give up on anyone. -mankind. Jesus is for mankind.
what helped me most to learn to care about all people, regardless of their wrong decisions in life including parts of different Jewish beliefs against the Jewish Scriptures
my prayer "Jesus I am sorry for my sins, come into my heart and help me, be my friend, amen."
He promised he unconditionally loves us and knocks on our heart door to come in deliver from sin and be our friend if we ask him in repenting of sin-even one lie=Revelation 3:19&20
my problem was lust with women and my buddies too we both are delivered -he got kicked out of the military for his homosexuality-
this was real help to show truth= For unthankfulness, and worshiping the created instead of the creator and then given to a reprobate mind to do what is unseamly man with man as with a woman. Romans chapter 1
Ist Corinthians gives deliverance for this and other sins- "Such WERE some of you but you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus."
Life is wonderfull for him now too -he goes to church and is totally delivered from the deamons that once put wrong ideas into his mind too
the prayer that keeps us - THE BLOOD OF JESUS REBUKE THAT THOUGHT, HELP ME THINK ON WHATEVER IS GOOD HONEST AND PURE, DEAR JESUS AMEN. (Philippians chapter 4)
praying for you friend, and best wishes too, David

I thought Jesus had been one of the Essenes. Or at least that's the theory.
Anyway I'd love to see your paper when it's done.

Jesus is like a politician. But he's a dirty one. In Luke 19, on his way to Jerusalem, he says to murder all those that do not wish for him to be king. That kind of behavior today would have landed Jesus in Jail.
