Good & simple food that you like. I would take a Kahlbi-style meat (spicy teriyaki) with seasoned rice. Or - a hoagie type sandwich filled with vegggies, cheese & some meat & lightly sprinkled with Balsamic vinegar. ALWAYS take dessert too! Plenty of fresh water, a good CD or cassette and take time to daydream! A good book is ok, if you want to keep busy, I prefer the daydream, because I get all kinds of great ideas.
Then for the PLACE of the picnic - I go to somewhere where there is a bit of privacy, but yet is safe, and a nice view.

Activities: Go to a vineyard and take a tour and do the wine tasting. Select a bottle and picnic on the grounds. Bring a good book. Pack enough food for more and if you meet someone nice offer to share.
Balsamic Marinated Pasta Salad
¼ cup olive oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 1/2 cups cooked pasta (bowties or other small shapes)
2 tablespoons chopped sundried tomatoes
1 tablespoon chopped olives
Salt and pepper
Whisk together olive oil and vinegar. Toss together with pasta, sundried tomatoes and olives. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Makes 4-6 servings.
Roasted Vegetable Skewers
1 red onion, cut into wedges
1 green bell pepper, cut into 1 inch squares
2 yellow squash, cut into 1/2 inch disks
16 button mushrooms
¼ cup olive oil
Salt and pepper
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Place two pieces of each vegetable on skewers, alternating as desired. Make sure there are small spaces between each vegetable to allow for heat circulation.
Brush each assembled skewer with oil and season lightly with salt and pepper.
Roast for 10 minutes, then flip and cook on other side for 5-10 minutes, until lightly browned and tender.
Picnic Gazpacho
6 medium tomatoes, peeled and seeded
1 cucumber, peeled and seeded
1 clove garlic, peeled
¼ cup lime juice
2 tablespoons chopped scallions
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
Salt and pepper
Combine tomatoes, cucumber, garlic and juice in blender or food processor and puree until smooth.
Stir in scallions and cilantro and season to taste.
Chill and place in thermos.
Makes 3-4 servings

Your fishing pole or compact rod/reel, a fish stringer, ice chest of course & bait like jigs-n-crickets or minnows, wax worms etc. to go on you jig, or a kite & binoculars for bird watching or a good book. Enjoy the piece & quiet, get lost in nature, it's like a mini vacation!!!!
As for food, the classic fried chicken and patato salad as long as you can keep it cold. Something more praticle would be good hoagie bun, some roast beef or you favorite cold cut. Frito scoops and bean dip, Hostess twinkies or ding dongs. Some bottled water & soft drinks. It's a good idea to pack some wet naps of baby wipes always! Don't forget the fishing license, lawn chair, sun screen, cell phone and a blanket. That sounds to good to go by yourself, I think you should invite a good friend too!

Fruit is always good like grapes strawberries, pineapple pieces, watermelon. Sandwiches cut up into triangles are also fun. Corn on the cob with some butter. If you want to go all out you could take steak chicken hamburgers hot dogs, potatoe salad. Don't forget the forks paper plates that's only if your going to eat hamburgers and stuff. Also don't forget the blanket to sit on and an extra one just in case it gets nippy. It all depends on you. To drink if your old enough take wine, if not take water, water is always good. Well I hope you have a good time.

As for food make it simple turkey or ham sandwiches Doritos and something cool to drink. your question made me smile. Good for you. You don't need anyone you can go at it alone. As for activities. I would suggest a good book to read under a nice shaded tree.
