honey, listen, we all go through it. i'm going through the same thing right now. pro-active does work. it's a little expensive. i, personally, prefer clearasil. it cheap and it works really well. u should try daily cleanse. it's just a plaibn old face wash that does its job: gets rid of zits and pimples.like i said, it cheaper; about $8. try it! it works!

I have had adult acne problems in the past. I did try ProActive and did not find that it helped me. I was in my early 20s desperate to clear my skin up and I was told to try Clinique's 3 Step Skin Care. It made a huge difference in my skin and I never felt dry after using it. The great thing about the skin care, is that you can customize it based on your needs. I'm really oily, so everything that I used was based around the fact that I am oily and that I exfoliated several times per week. I have been using it for 7 years and am now 30 years old. On occasion, when I do have some mild breakout, it's gone within a matter of days. I love the stuff and know that works.
I hope that it works for you too!

The only worthwhile thing about the Pro-Active is the Refining Mask, but the entire system really sucks. For me, and for a lot of my friends, no part of Pro-Active really works. Your mom should take your brother to a dermatologist, a professional who can easily help. It may cost a bit at the moment, but for the money saved in the long run, coming from someone who has tried everything, skipping on Pro-Active and going straight to the derm will be really beneficial.

The problem with proactiv is that it works only for a short amount of time if you use it everyday. The main acne fighter ingredient is benzoyl peroxide. If you use it sparingly for example only when you get a breakout, I believe it could work. The problem is benzoyl peroxide is one of those ingredients that your skin can build a tolerance too. Meaning it wont work anymore once your skin becomes adapt to it. I would recommend anything with a glycolic acid no more than 10% for home use. MD forte has some good glycolic products.

Very often, diet can have dramatic results. Refined carbohydrates, i.e., junk food, may result in an excessive insulin response, countered by an adrenal cortisol response. Along with the cortisol, DHEA-S, i.e., dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate, is also produced. Abundance of this substrate can ultimately, via a number of biochemical pathways, result in over production of the sebaceous glands, making them vulnerable to acne vulgaris.
The hormone, directly causing oily skin is DHT, i.e., 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, the most potent of male hormones. It is produced from T, i.e., testosterone, in the skin cells.

a friend of mine tried it before and it didn't work for her but it does not mean it doesnt work for everybody else. Probably it also depends on what type of skin you have.
if you have sensitive skin, maybe you should go for Mary Kay or Dermalogica. I use Mary Kay and i think it's the best facial product so far. Hope this helps.
