My friend was on a track team and she kept beating this kid and he kept bugging her and saying she cheated. She told the kid to go back to the ghetto and he wouldn't let it go and getting in her face and called her a b**** and she said you know you have a big mouth and someone should put a rifle in it (she didn't mean it as a threat but a comeback). He told the principal and he said he didn't call her anything and that she kicked him, called him a n***** and threatened him. Now she is suspended for 10 days and being recomended for expulsion.

I know for a fact she DIDN'T call him a n*****. What I'm saying is she should get punished by do you think they took it too far with expolsion recomendation? Do you think the fact he lied to the principal means anything?

If what you wrote is correct and if I’m understanding the situation correctly, it is not fair at all. If your friend, in fact, didn't say what that kid claims she said then what that kid is doing is called lying and getting others into trouble for no reason.
Having said that, I also have to say that your friend is not innocent because she told this kid to go back to the ghetto. This hurt his feelings and was a sign of racism. About the rifle remark, I understand that she didn't mean it literally because most school or college girls don't own rifles, so by use of common sense, I have to say that she didn't threaten him directly. I think that she was correct in saying that because she was falsely accused of cheating (assuming she was not cheating) & was called a b****.

It would have been much better if your friend didn't start up with that kid, but just took the issue to the administration to begin with.

I think they were both wrong. Obviously the loser is a sore loser. On the other hand the comment about the ghetto is awful. These comments are what keep Americans going with racism and negativity. The comment about the rifle being said on school grounds at a school event to another student is terrible. Especially today with school violence history. Unfortunatley she should be expelled and that comment shouldn't be taken lightly.
The fact that the boy lied to the principal is not good either but calling someone a b**** and saying to put a rifle in your mouth are very different. Yea, he said she kicked him, but obviously he cant prove his lie since there wouldn't be a mark.
They should both be punished for their mistakes and she needs to watch her comments about weapons, killing etc. Expulsion is probably the least of her concerns.

Both kids clearly made poor choices in the way they interacted, but name calling is very common in most school environments. Especially if one student outshines another. That's just the way it is. However, your friend took it to another level with her "go back to the ghetto" comment and the rifle in the mouth comment. How do you really know it wasn't meant as a threat? You don't. Listen, if she told this boy to go back to the ghetto, I suspect she probably used the "N" word.

With all the school violence over the past few year, the school did the responsible thing by issuing the suspension.

She may as WELL have called him "n" because she told him "to go back to the ghetto". She used a stereotype, made a racist comment, THEN, basically threatened him.

Open your big mouth, you get what you deserve. She'd have gotten kicked out whether he'd lied or not.

she kept beating him, made racist remarks, and threated to kill him (doesn't matter if it was in jest)? you've got some very "nice" friends there. She does deserve to be punished.
If she really cheated on top of that, she should also be expelled.

I think that the witnesses to the event should be questioned, as well. They are more likely to tell both sides. She was wrong, but so was the other kid. He sounds like a "spoiled sport" and a "poor loser". Sounds like they were both wrong, so it is not foair for him to go unpunished.

It has got to the point where kids need lawyers over school ground spats. Kind of sad really.

I think it is not as fair as it should be. The kid wasn't exactly on his best behavior, he should get some punishment, too.

Maybe she should have just let it go instead of continually going back to argue with him. You don't have to rise to the occasion, you can always ignore the person. She also shouldn't have said what she did.
