New York was one of the cities that were the capital of the U.S.,the others are Washington, Philadelphia and Annapolis,Md. You must have read that in a history book.
New York is a much larger city than Washington.
There is a state called Washington, which is not even close to being the capital, maybe that is what you were thinking about.

I believe that New York was at one time for a very short time as well the captial of the US. Washington, DC is about 230 miles south of NYC and seems to be at a more central location when it was named the capital which was over 200 years ago and the US has expanded westward greatly since then.

New York City was the capital of the US in the 1780s and the country's first president, George Washington, was sworn into the presidential office at Federal Hall in downtown Manhattan. Today, NYC is the financial capital of the world.

i think of it relies upon on the region... For starters, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, there are not any constitutional amendments conserving adult males from something or giving adult males the superb to something specially. Now this would recommend that adult males are the dominant component and could be saved "in verify" or it ought to recommend that there is a psychological component at play in society that asserts women individuals are "weaker" and want secure practices. i'm keen to wager, you may hear the two factors of the argument with numerous caveats to accompany those arguments. we've an area newspaper (The Westword) that at the instant revealed a piece of writing some guy suing nightclubs over the sought after women folk' night that often happens on Wednesdays. His declare replaced into that ladies human beings get loose beverages from adult males because it rather is, so why is there discrimination against adult males on Wednesday nights allwoing women human beings to drink loose and not pay a conceal cost. (The bonehead is yet to win a case...) there is unquestionably different factors to verify: payscales, gender-particular careers, maternity vs paternity pass away, and so on. i think of we live in a greater equivalent society than individuals are keen to admit, yet on a case by way of case analysis, i think of you will see the two genders dealt with unfairly.

If you were asleep since about 1800 you had the right answer, since New York was among the early capitals of US (where Congress met).
That was a couple of hundred years ago and times have changed.
