A question over on P&S reminded me of this. Was it Mark Twain or maybe Ogden Nash?

Or maybe Mae West?

I am not sure but it certainly sounds like the old CRUSTY actress of the 1920's, 30's and 40's who died at the age of 87 in 1980 MAE WEST..... She had a quick sassy wit and was well known for saying VERY bawdy double entendres (look it up)....she was a stage and screen actress in the early days of motion pictures..... she did a few films with W. C. Fields. There are websites (I found one at least) with lists of all the quotes that are attributable to her.... her most famous---"WHY DON'T YOU COME UP AND SEE ME SOME TIME"...... others are "A hard man is good to find", "Between two evils, I always pick the one I haven't tried before"......"Good girls go to heaven, Bad girls go everywhere".... and MANY many more --some TOO racy to put in this forum....

I wasn't able to find that quote, but here are a few that are close.

"The more I know about men, the more I like dogs." - Gloria Allred.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." - Mark Twain

"Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in." - Mark Twain

"If you want to be liked, get a dog. The people you work with are not your friends." - Deborah Norville

"A dog's best friend is his illiteracy." - Ogden Nash

"Histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends." - Alexander Pope

Personally, i heard that saying from a lot of women I met, (mostly in the Army) i would usually be too drunk to care and tell them i prefer my beer. That is when they would tell me they prefer dogs.
