I learned in College that smoked foods are carcinogenic, but I read elsewhere that Salmon has antioxidative properties, and that it contains vitamins A, Niacin and Riboflavin, and that the Omega 3 in Salmon can prevent heart disease and maybe even caner. What I want to know is: does the good outweigh the bad?

Any food that is smokes can increase your chance of getting esophagus or stomach cancer. This has been proven by the fact that japan and other asian areas who consume alot of smoked fish, have a higher incedence of these cancers. If you dont eat it everyday, you will be fine.

I doubt that the carcinogenic effect in most foods is all that strong unless you eat LOTS!

The benefits of salmon should counter balance any problem with smoked salmon.

Did you realize that some of what we are told about what is carcinogenic or not carcinogenic is more the personal opinion of the promoter of the concept than it is fact. Often people promote a concept that is more an agenda and less fact than they state.
