In 1987 Ratzinger (The current Pope) released a letter that contained a lot of inflammatory rhetoric about homosexuals saying they are materalistic, self centered , with a inate (Built in) disposition to evil and are responsible for the violence and discrimination they have experienced and failed to say nothing about the people who have inflicted harm on them.. A few years ago the Vatican then under Pope John Paul II even spoke out against their civil rights to jobs, and housing. And in either letter he said NOTHING about the mistreatment they have suffered. He appears to have shown NO concern for them and in a another letter stated that those in relationships should not be treated with any respect both by the church and government. If he was truly understanding of them he would talk about them and even address their community in a way that shows concern, compassion and respect. So far it appears he has done none of t

The letter I was refering to was published in 1986. I believe its title was "Letter to Bishops on the care of Homosexual Persons". Many gays left the church as a result. I am fully aware of the churches position and understand its teachings. But it is the Popes attitude and beliefs that concern me. I have nothing against the CC but regarding the Pope yes I do at least until he shows some understanding of them. He does and I would never expect his teachings nor the churches to change but only for them to show some heartfelt compassion and concern and to take back a lot of the rhetoric they have said. I have never been to a bathouse and will not go, I am not a mateiralistic party animal like he said nor am I attempting to force my lifestyle on others nor beliefs. But simply expect the same human rights,(To things like housing, employment, protectrion of the laws) appreciation, concern and sensitivity and NO SLANDER, name calling, accusations and propaganda.

I find it interesting that you do not cite or link us to the alleged letter.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

With love in Christ.

You have to understand that for Catholicism, homosexuality is not ok. I was raised as a catholic, and I would like that the church would ''accept'' homosexuality not as a deviation, but just a characteristic people may have. But I think we are a million years away from that... see, sadly enough if the pope talked about this as you say, in a way that shows compassion and respect, we would not be talking abut Catholicism anymore!! I hope some day things will change within my religion, but expecting that this pope will address homosexuality in that approach, without condemning, is not knowing what this Benedict is about. For example, look at the faux pas with citing that demeaning text about Muslims....

No Pope has ever justified homosexuality in the entire history of the Church, so it's pure silly to have expectations for this Pope to be different, when it is not his job to justify homosexuality, his job is to stand for God's commandments the same as the popes before him.

It is not likely ever to happen either, since everyone who knows how to read is well aware of homosexual Roman Emperors like Nero, Caligula, etc. who tried to push their homosexual marriage plans onto an unwilling populace, and tried their best to stamp out Christianity in their name -- even though this was over 1700 years ago, there is still very deep mistrust, because that is what happened the last time in history a privileged homosexual minority was in charge of the life or death of everyone else. They call it 'progress' from their point of view, but from the point of view of the majority that they try to censor and stifle, it is 1700 years going backwards to a much crueler time.

Proof please?

I believe that majority of the Christian-Catholics actually respect homosexuals. And we are just members of the church and we respect them. How much more for the pope?

I know many devout C-C's who are homosexuals, if the Catholic church is not 'sensitive' to them, they should have converted by now. And besides, homosexuality is not a sin. It was not like they chose to be born like that. Homosexuality becomes a sin when sexual activities happen between a man and a man and a woman and a woman.

God bless! Always!

Sadly no, he actually instructed politicians to vote against gay marriage, and the Vatican has launched a global campaign against gays.

The Pope is a Nazi homophobe.

I live in Italy.

If you read today's headlines of the Corriere Della Sera, you can see how he and his "Church" managed to exclude homosexuals from attending an important "event" today in Rome.
