The expression "celebrate multiculturalism" is plain bully tactics when I did not want multiculturalism in the first place. I am being asked to "celebrate" something which I do not want, what sort of mind invented this? It is like Germany having won the world cup and we Brits being asked to "celebrate Germany’s win"

Thanks Veritas, I am in the UK, notice most answers simply say "we like multiculturalism" they think this gives them enough kudos to order us to do the same, amazing, I am surprised there are no "racist" jibes which is another word they like using.

It is refreshing to read common sense. Multiculturalism has been imposed upon us by the lefties. It hasn't, isn't, and will not work. By suppressing the host culture, it is bound to lead to division. A country cannot sustain itself when it is made up of a lot of disparate groups without common values.

The word "celebrate" has been hi-jacked by the left, who always want to celebrate anything that smacks of being unpatriotic. So, I entirely agree with you, did not ask for it, will not celebrate it.

PS. My comments refer to Britain and not the US. I think that the questioner is referring to Britain as well.

Ya know, you could do what is suggested of the PC crowd (which I am NOT a part of) and ignore it. It's a recommendation and anyone that says it isn't doesn't believe in the freedoms that the US and UK relish in. It's a freedom to NOT celebrate multiculturalism just as much as it is a freedom to celebrate it.

I personally have no issues with multiculturalism, but believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion and would never tell someone to they had to believe the same as me, just that they respect my beliefs as I respect yours.

There's nothing wrong with multiculturalism. The rest of the world has accepted american values with few issues.
There is a general sense of Xenophobia among americans, mainly due to the usa-centered education system and ignorance by red staters who feel that they can live in an insular society with one language, one preferred culture yet at the same time impose that language and culture on others.

I guess the closest similar society to the USA is japan. The Japanese are notoriously racist and xenophobic. They even consider koreans to be aliens and have a very closed citizenship. The only reason they have some american culture is because it was forced on them by post WWII occupation.

I don't see anything offensive about it and can't compare it to Germany winning the cup.
In Australia most of us appreciate what multiculturism brings to our country...although there are some who feel the same way as you, they over look the fact that the British invaded this land and stole it from the Aboriginals making our descendants the first white Australians.....immigrants.
The world is a big place there is plenty of room for everyone.

Technology has made the world a little town !!

As time goes by people will have no problem with races !! and everybody would get married with anybody not necessarily your own race. That would produce eventually a whole new human race and hopefully race barriers would dissapear.

How To Detroy America (insert your own nations name)
, "If you believe that America is too smug, to self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America."

"Here is how they do it," Lamm said. "Turn America into a bilingual or multi lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way, "The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon-all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons and Corsicans."

Lamm went on, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds."

"We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the ATLANTIC MONTHLY recently: " The apparent success of our own multi-ethnic and multi-cultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically and what it meant to be an America, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together."

Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology'. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other-that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks: "The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy Persia threatened their liberty. Yet, all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factorslocal patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'unum, we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits-make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity'. I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century-that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate."

"Having made America a bilingual--bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology', I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: "That because immigration has been good for America, it must ALWAYS be good. I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them." In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. The profound silence allowed me to hear my heart beating. Finally, he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book 'MEXIFORNIA'. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

Yeah why not celebrate liberty, freedom and our rights.
Hasn't America always been a land of opportunity for all who come here legally? So what's so new and how are they going to get US in the mood to 'celebrate'? The North American Union is not something, from what I hear, anybody here wants or most Canadians.

No, it's not at all like that because it's not one group of people winning at another group's expense - nobody is harmed by multiculturalism. People are harmed by mistrust and fear, the things multiculturalism stand against.

The only people who find that offensive are racists and bigots. And decent people find their remarks offensive. So maybe we should ban them from speaking out--after all, there's a lot more decent people than trailer park trash in this country!
