This is such a hard situation, because what you're learning the hard way is that we can't control another's action. I'm sure it's really scary to watch him do these things.
This may sound silly, but you may want to talk to a counselor or someone you can talk your feelings out with. They might be able to give you some tips about being a good influence for your dad, and how to deal with these feelings of fear (and probably frustration, too).

I think if he has hurt his leg, then your best recourse is to drastically change your diet. Try to limit processed foods, and simple carbs (which your body interprets as sugar), load up on veggies and food that is full of fiber. If you try to eat 5-6 smaller meals per day, you'll feel more satisfied. If your Dad or you feel like a small treat, go for sugar-free or limit the sugar. Good, healthy eating can be fun! And there are loads of recipes that are simple and delicious. Try out www.cookinglight.com. The food is flavorful, and low on the bad stuff.
If you need some guidance, I would bet that your Dad's insurance would cover a consult with a nutritionist. That would be a great starting point. My Dad has diabetes, too, and is coming to live with me in June. Although we eat fairly well, I too want to really live cleanly to encourage him as well.
Good luck. All things that are worthwhile are somewhat hard, I think. You can do it.

I know this is hard as you are the child and he is the father.
You are wanting to help him. Just go to him, and tell him,
"Dad, I love you, and I want for both of us to try and lose some weight, and if you are willing to do it with me, then I will be grateful."
Eating is important and portion size is important.
The American Diabetes Association has a wonderful website where you can get lots of helpful information about eating and what diabetics should eat and how much they should eat. If you would eat the portion sizes that a diabetic is to eat, then you would probably lose the weight.
Your dad needs to exercise as well. I know he hurt his leg, but once it is well, the two of you could start a walking regimen. Need to do 30minutes 2x daily.
This would help you both and let your dad know that you are only trying to help him and yourself where you both can be around for one another for many years to come.
Please know that I know this has got to be hard, but be persisent in your determination to lose the weight and when your Dad sees how much you really do care, he will join right in.
Do it and see what happens.
Best of Luck to you both.

Well, the first thing is try to be supportive in all ways possible. Watch your weight and try to encourage your dad. If even just for a walk or something. He does need to watch his food intake. Does he check his blood sugar? I don't know how long he has had diabetes but maybe he needs to be educated! Go with him to classes he can take thru his doctor for diabetes education and try to get him in to see a diabetic educator. Good luck to the both of you.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.
