there were missionaries there at that time, but none of the webbies I visited stated deaths. I'm sure there must have been as missionaries are often targeted during conflicts such as this. :(

blessings (((darryl))) ;)

thank you so much Darryl. I was able to sing this morning at our school's worship and managed alright. This has truly been a journey in both patience and trust - 2 weeks! wow.

Catholics have been in Vietnam since at least the 1500s.

The first Catholic seminary was established in 1665 and native Vietnamese priests were ordained.

In the 1800s thousands of Catholics were martyred.

On June 19, 1998 Pope John Paul II canonized 117 Vietnamese martyrs. Unfortunately, Vietnamese bishops, priests and other faithful from Vietnam were not allowed to attend by the Communist government.

Today in Vietnam, there are 3 archdioceses, 17 dioceses, and over 5.5 million Catholics living under a Communist government.

I haven't been able to find much about Catholic during the Vietnam War.

With love in Christ.

Of course. Hundred, from 1963 right through to 1975. Before that even, during the Japanese occupation and on through the war with France. South Vietnam was deeply Catholic and the communists of the north intensely antiChristian. Naturally a lot of clergy lost their lives, particularly nuns, who do more field work than priests.

I am a Vietnam Veteran and I never met any Priests or Nuns there.

If they were there, I didn't see them.
