Depends on your water heater. Probably between 30-50 gallons.

There are a lot of variables. It depends upon the volume of the hot water heater, the rate of the water coming out of the shower, the temperature of the water going into the hot water heater, the heating capacity of the hot water heater, the temperature setting of the hot water, the amount of insulation (if any) on your hot water lines, the distance between the hot water heater and the shower, the diameter of the hot water lines, and a few more. In other words, it's a very complex calculation.

Assuming that no hot water has been used for an hour prior to your shower, you would use little more than the capacity of your hot water tank. Check the tag on the tank to see how many gallons it holds. The "little more" would be equal to the amount of volume of the water pipes that lead to your shower head. It's nearly impossible to figure that part out.
The capacity of your hot water tank should give you the best estimate though. Good luck!

Probably It takes lots of gallons just staying in for 20 minutes, I imagine it would take large amount of water to use all the hot water.

Too much. Much of the world is in serious drought, there could come a time when water will be rationed and you could be fined as an overuser. We are on a well where we live and get fined for overuse. Don't be a waterhog!

length of water heater oftentimes is a concern, in spite of if that's under a 30 gallon heater that's probable your concern. in spite of if that's a extensive heater and an electric powered water heater might wager it quite is the decrease heating element long gone undesirable. in case you replace it your self confirm to fill the tank after replace earlier turning capability back directly to heater.
