capitalctu: the works of the writers you mention appear to have been tampered with, later additions or forged passages were inserted so they are not credible as ex-Bible references.

"ty was the ultimate product of religious syncretism in the ancient world. Its emergence owed nothing to a holy carpenter. There were many Jesuses but the fable was a cultural construct. Nazareth did not exist in the 1st century AD – the area was a burial ground of rock-cut tombs. Following a star would lead you in circles. The 12 disciples are as fictitious as their master, invented to legitimise the claims of the early churches. The original Mary was not a virgin. That idea was borrowed from pagan goddesses."

I'm afraid you're very much mistaken. Many people believe that anything in the Bible must not be true. What they forget is the political and social climate in which they were written. The Gospels were ALL written between 55 AD and 95 AD.

The world at that time was quickly changing, and one never knew what to expect. Would there be war, or peace? Would the next Roman emperor be wise and kind, or would they be a despot? And don't even get me started on the judges, governors, Sadducees, and Pharisees!

The proof that Jesus existed is in the Gospels. It's in the fact that all but ONE of Jesus's apostles died a horrible, gruesome death for what they preached, and even the one that died naturally had been boiled alive at one point! It's in the fact that within five years of Jesus's resurrection, Christianity had EXPLODED onto the scene. It's in the fact that NO ONE in Jerusalem or the surrounding areas called the disciples liars. Instead, they admitted that yes, Jesus had performed miracles, but He was crazy and demon-possessed (even though modern psychologists admit there is absolutely NO indication that Jesus was crazy). They admitted that yes, the tomb was empty, but that was because the guards placed at the entrance had fallen asleep, and the disciples came and stole the body (even though the guards would have been executed for falling asleep on the job, and yet they lived).

In a society where religions gain popularity and diminish to obscurity within months, it's hard for us to understand the Jewish converts. At that time, if a person was a Jew, it was because their ancestry, sometimes spanning dozens of generations (they had all the "begats" memorized), included Judaism. Therefore, converting from Judaism to Christianity was a HUGE deal. And yet, there were HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS, of Jewish converts.

Additionally, the secular writings that you claim were tampered with is not entirely incorrect. Some things WERE added. Scholars have been able to determine which parts were added. For example, when Josephus says that Jesus "was the Christ" was added later. He never would have written that, because he was a Jew, to his dying day. The rest, however, are exactly as they were. If one reads the works of Pliny the Younger, he speaks of being witness to the persecution of Christians.

Also, Nero and Hadrian were some of the most prolific persecutors of early Christians. The opposition that early Christians faced was quite heavy.

Would you die for a lie? Would you say you witnessed something, if you didn't, if it meant that you were going to die a horrible death? Some later Christians in the second century DID recant. The very earliest ones, however, did not.

My point is, history can attest to the fact that there WAS a man called Jesus who was from Nazareth, and that He had followers. And despite the claims that Nazareth did not exist, it DID, and archaeology has confirmed it.

Jack and the Beanstalk is just a story. Nothing more, nothing less. There is NO historical proof that anything like that happened. No one died proclaiming that the story was true, and there are NO writings from people who were witnesses of anything like that. THAT is actually one of the main advantages we Christians have for our story, that no one can claim for anything they call a "fairy tale."

Is the story of Jesus Christ pretty unbelievable? Yes! It seems IMPOSSIBLE on the surface. However, if a person really delves into it (without relying on sites such as www.jesusneverexisted.com or www.godisimaginary.com), they'll find, as I have, that there is sufficient proof for it.

Jack and the Beanstalk hasn't been as widely publicised as Jesus and religion. Religion has a far wider media range and the Church has had literally hundreds of years of manipulation up its sleeve to work with. Jack and the Beanstalk has only been around since about the nineteenth century, so regardless of whether there is more evidence for it or not, it isn't as familiar as Jesus - people tend to stick with the familiar and what they are comfortable with.

I think that the story of Jack and the Beanstalk has some themes that resound throughout society. Jack is tempted to give up something real for something magic. He is also disobeying his Mum when he does this. The question is: does the beanstalk actually grow, or does he just dream it? Does he manage to overcome the giant foe he meets due to his reliance on magic only in his dreams? Is this how children make their way in life - trying magic out instead of their parents' instructions? The mother is supposed to be happy that her son has disobeyed her. Is he telling the truth about the good fortune he has found by his belief in magic? Maybe he will be the next giant of some other child's nightmare.

Besides that, Jesus told us to worship the Father. He was not a Son who used magic or promoted it. He used compassion and prayer to his Father to heal. He treated people with gentleness, recognising their thrown-about condition and the lack of interest shown by the religious leaders in their plight.

What is your evidence for the existence of Jack and the Beanstalk? How many pieces of evidence are there, and how many pieces of evidence are there for the existence of Jesus? In other words, what is the source of the claim in your question?

To my knowledge, there are far many more historically verified pieces of evidence that Jesus of Nazareth actually existed. Not just the books of the New Testament, which are eyewitness accounts written by people who walked and lived with Jesus each day, but in other non-Biblical Greek, Roman, and Jewish historical records from the day as well. Also to my knowledge, there is not one piece of evidence in the world that points to the existence of Jack and the Beanstalk.

So please, tell us what your sources of information are.

There isn't more evidence for Jack & the Beanstalk than there is for Jesus. Your ignorance is breathtaking. And no, I'm not going to cite, or do your scholarship for you. Do it yourself.

All I have to say is Tacitus and Josephus and Pliny the Younger all attested to Jesus being a real person (and none of them were Christians by any stretch of the imagination). So, fairy tale or historical evidence?
