My wife and I are separated but we do not have a "legal" separation nor have we filed for divorce. I was approved for and given a loan to purchase a car. My wife was not notified of this. The dealership knew I was married and still went ahead with the loan. Is this loan legal?

Yes, but you do have to worry about the joint property thing... She may even be entitled to the car if you do divorce. If you are definitely getting a divorce in the near future I would say wait on the car... You are able to get approved for anything... Just because your married doesn't mean your wife gets to make the final choice for your loan. I hope this some how helps in some way! Good luck...

Yes. You are allowed to buy anything you want. You can buy a house in your own name if you wish, when you are married. Be careful though, it becomes community property if you divorce, so half of your interest might be hers.

You may purchase anything you want. But you need to take into consideration if the marriage dissolves she has rights to half the car even tho you bought it. wouldn't have been easier to have her with you and make a joint purchase
