Read more about subjects you like, and less about things you don't enjoy. Try to see required reading as a seperate thing from reading for pleasure; some people who hate the books they have to read for school get a dislike of reading in general, and that's sad. I disliked many of the books I had to read for school too, but I still loved to read for pleasure; fantasy, scifi, animal stories, etc, etc.

Go to your local library, and see what kind of books they have on tape or CD. Some one with a melodious voice is hired to read the book on tape. It can make it more interesting to "read" that way.You can play it at home, or in your car. Pick one that is interesting to you.
Or, work on your reading skills. Maybe with a little help, you could read faster, with more comprehension. Lots of classes and books out there that teach reading skills.
I love to read. It is the best way to escape from the world for awhile. Big, thick, juicy historical novels are my favorite. For a while, I get to be someone else who lives in another time. Escapism, it is called.
I have read many books that have been made into movies. The book is always better.
Which brings me to another idea. When you go to the library, go to the movie section, and find one that is adapted from a book. Gone with the Wind, The Thornbirds, David Copperfield, Anna Karenina, Death of a Salesman, to name a few.
Hope this helps.

Maybe the subject matter you have read in the past is boring. Try reading a book that is in line with the type of movies you go to. Ignore the stupid remark. Usually people who claim to have intellect do not refer to others as stupid.

The joy of reading is this...it's like watching a TV show without the commercials. You and your imagination are in charge. You decide what the characters look like, what they wear. Now come on, you know you would like to be the director!
And just think you don't have to look @commercials for fast food, cars or feminine hygiene products!
Go on! Run that movie in your head.

Read interesting subjects. Take initially comics with pictures. You can read them fast. Slowly build up the habit of reading comics. Then go to simple stories and novels of few pages. read comedies, jokes etc. Continuous reading will improve your reading habit and slowly you will read anything that is available including text books.

This is very difficult for me to understand as I love to read. All I can tell you is to try to find books that interest you. And remember that if you want to get a good job when you grow up, you will need to be able to read well. Not reading makes people stupid.

i hate to read alot as well but what i feel works with me is to read whatever it is im reading in smaller doses.the problem is if idont ENJOY whatever it is i am reading iwill put it off again and again.so therefore i learned that it shortens my attention span to it, so i noticed if i read it in smaller broken up parts then i would not only get the major understanding of the book but i would get into a habit or reading it, then it makes it easier to handle reading things....try it..

I hope you are not serious.

Check out some of the classics: Dickens, Defoe, etc.

Perhaps you have not been exposed to some of the great books available.
