At 32 I had a mycardial infarction while mountain biking in Moab, then this Feb. I had cardiac bypass (X4) that if left untreated could have been fatal, I am now 38 years old. Lets just say I have a whole new view of life. You must work through your anxiety, living life in fear of death is no way to live. Know that the end will come eventually and when your time is up, well, its up. Since the infarction I have been a volunteer firefighter and EMT, I have hiked, camped in some really tough areas. Now, post bypass I am training for a road race on a bicycle, preparing run a triathlon and getting back into mountain biking. I see no reason to sit back and let the prospect of death eat me alive and reduce the quality of my life. I set goals and prepare to responsively achieve them, you should too. I am sad to hear about your Dad, Son and Friend, but I suspect they would want you to live your life to its fullest potential, without fear of dying. Good luck and stick with your therapy, it really can help

I think everyone is a little afraid of death. It depends. I had a serious illness 3 years ago when they gave me 10% chance of living, and even when I was released they gave me 50%. When I was that sick it didn't even cross my mind, however my husband and my mother never told me my chances. I am however not really afraid of death. It's just a part of the life cycle. However that being said that's just me, and in University I took courses on death and dying (on the perspectives of the person dying as well as the people that love them.
There are several books on death and dying. Elizabeth Kubler Ross has a couple of really good ones. It's not religious but factual.

I am sorry to hear about all the deaths you have had to deal with.
How old are you? How old was your son?
I can understand where you are coming from with the fear. I think death is scary. It is so final, and very real.
I do not dwell on it, but there are times where reality will smack me in the face, that one day, I too will die.
That is the reason I live each day to the fullest. I make sure everyone knows how much I love them. I try not to put too many things off til tomorrow.
And, like I said, it's O.K. to be nervous about death, but it isn't O.K. to let it ruin the life you are living now.
Life is short, and you only have one chance. MAKE IT COUNT!!!
The deaths you have had to deal with are sad, and I feel for you. Take the time to grieve over them, but also take the time to live your life!!!
BEST WISHES TO YOU!

Don't waste your time on earth. Live your precious life day to day. No one can tell when death will come. What's the use of being scared? I can understand the anxiety but is your health ok? I am waiting for death but I live life from day to day. I eat well, enjoy when I can, do things I used to do but at a slower pace. Be positive and happy the devil will not come near. I have lung cancer in advanced stage since last June.

I am not so much scared of dying...but scared that there wont be an after life and that i will be gone for eternity...not thinking of anything at all...just laying there decomposing in my grave. I just hope there is an after life cause being gone forever is not good.

If it is that overwhelming for you and interferes with your quality of life, then I would get professional counseling so that you can enjoy your life.

well if you think of death as the beginning of a new spirit life, then no need to be terrified.
