It's a B vitamin. It can cause some rather unpleasant side effects at that dose, but it won't do any permanent damage. If it wasn't prescribed for you, say to lower your cholesterol level, it wasn't really smart, though. And don't even think it'll help you skate a drug screen.

No, niacin is found in our everyday foods. We used to play jokes with our friends with it - when they were hung over we would tell them to take 4 of them and the hang over would be gone - it dilates your veins and you feel hot and flushed and red all over your body. It does not hurt you but be careful if you play tricks with it as some people are sensitive to it and some others with medical problems cannot handle it. You are safe though as long you don't notice any ill effects your body is not over sensitive to it.
