The problem is, leftists and the centerist Republicans are under political pressure to do something since Bush is a lame-duck president as nearly all 2nd termers are. Another thing, these people are acting like it is 9-10-01, not post 9-11. They are calling these foiled terror plots "schemes" and make these terrorists sound like bumbling idiots who pose no real threat. They speak down about our military by saying that we are losing the war on terror and fail to mention the sucesses we have in Afghanistan and Iraq. Afghanistan is nearly clear folks! We need a hard-liner in office and there aren't any that is gonna make a serious run. Drop the politics, focus on what is right and wrong.
And for you dems and other liberals, do you realize Pulosi just wrote legislation for the CIA to monitor the effects of "global-warming" on our national security? talk about misappropriationo of responsibility of funds and personnel, thats the National Weather Service, and global warming is cyclical, happens every 11,000 yrs and we aren't gonna stop it.

Well you could cast an eye over the way the right wingers are handling it, and realise that starting pre emptive wars all over the globe is a very ugly way to protect your country. Im sure lefties dont advocate training up groups like the Mudjahadeen and therefore couldnt be surprised when they get a whole can of whup *** opened in their face. Remember it was the CIA who trained up OBL and his merry band of men, therefore the threats from Al Qaeda were self inflicted threats and the current war on terror is nothing but US imperialism and profiteering on a scale that has never been seen in the history of mankind.

The U.S. has been sending nonlethal help for a on a similar time as now to Syria's refugees and rebels, yet President Obama and his intelligence group have held returned so a techniques on offering any weapons to the rebels precisely because of the involvement in recent months of the al-Qa'eda-affiliated Nusra front, a team we've had on our terrorist checklist for relatively a while. Even the report that chemical weapons could have been used became into thoroughly investigated in a joint attempt by potential of the UN and the U.S., partly to confirm if the chemical weapons were used and likewise to confirm if al-Nusra rebels could have executed so in the hopes of having the U.S. and its allies blame the Assad regime. proceed with warning is the present attitude, and one that's subsidized by potential of a majority of individuals who're war-weary. As to "Leftists" (your objective inhabitants for this question), the extremist state of the fashionable-day CULT-controlled a techniques-rightwing GOP could render just about each and every person in the U.S. to be "leftist" different than for the previous-white-guy fundamentalist Neanderthal few attempting in ineffective to take us returned to the Fifties.

They will claim the violence to U.S personnel as minimal verses the expense of protecting the population. For instance more people die in car accidents in one year than Americans killed by terrorism in the last 100 years. The biggest "terrorist" organization might be the U.S. tobacco industry which kills over 100,000 Americans a year.
If the Democrats pull the money out of the fighting (which is about $200 billion a year) and put it into social programs such as education and healthcare, they might save more Americans from themselves than what the terrorists can kill.

Do you think that the 70% or so Americans who think Iraq was a mistake, and who disapprove of Bush's handling things are all "leftist"?
People like Paul Craig Roberts, who was Ronald Reagan's Assistant Secretary to the treasury?
"...Emotional appeals to fear and to patriotism have led close to half of the population to accept unaccountable government in the name of "the war on terrorism." What a contradiction it is that so many Americans have been convinced that safety lies in their sacrifice of their civil liberties and accountable government.
If so many Americans cannot discern that they have acquiesced to conditions from which tyranny can arise, how can they understand that it is statistically impossible for the NSA’s mass surveillance of Americans to detect terrorists? ..."

How about prominent Republican Pat Buchanan who also opposed the Iraq war on the grounds that is was bad for America? I suppose he's a leftist too?
I guess to a small minority of people on the extremist fringe, such as yourself, everyone in the middle is a "leftist."
i.e. Your question is distortedly worded. If you want a discussion, how about not applying distorted labels to anyone who might disagree with you?

Your question is very insulting. Leaning left politically does not mean one doesn't love his country. In a legitimate war, where there was an actual threat to the US, you would probably be surprised at who would volunteer to fight for it. Furthermore, pacifists can contribute a great deal even if they don't engage in combat.
You're not very well educated, are you?
