We've only known each other a short while, but when I asked her out she seemed very excited. However, she let me know that her parents will not let her date me because I am older, she wasn't even supposed to talk to me. So we had kind of a friendly relationship, but she was extremely busy and it felt more like she was ignoring me. We hadn't even gotten to talk in about a month so finally when I did talk to her I asked her what was really going on. She told me that she is just amazingly busy with school winding down, but then went on to say that she isn't looking for "that type" of relationship right now. A little later in the conversation she ended up saying something like "I really like you and we have a lot in common, so it's fun to spend time together. I thought there could be something between us but as time went on I realized I was too busy to spend enough time with you that I'd ever really feel like I know you well enough" I took that as a sign that maybe there is hope...

I'm sorry to have to break it to you, but it looks like there is little hope...

I feel that she is genuine in wanting to be a friend - and as a friend, she is very politely telling you that there is something missing. Call it a spark, or chemistry - but whatever is lacking, it is major enough to rule out much of a chance for a relationship.

It also sounds like she wouldn't want to lose a great friend on what (to her) seems like a long-shot relationship - after all, girlfriends can come and go, but a best friend is very rare to find in this world :)
