You place it on pathways or passageways facing in the direction in which you expect your unsuspecting enemy to wander along.

yes..you do want the front towards the enemy *lol*
How you aim the mine depends on the type of site it has. There are 2 different types - knife edge and slit.
Mines with slit-type peepsight.
1. Select an aiming point which is about 50 meters (150 feet) to the front of the mine and about 2½ meters (8 feet) above the ground.
2. Position the eye about 15 centimeters (6 inches) to the rear of the sight. Aim the mine by sighting through the peepsight. The groove of the sight should be in line with the aiming point. The aiming point should be in the center of the desired area of coverage, and the bottom edge of the peepsight should be parallel to the ground that is to be covered with the fragment spray.
Mines with knife-edge sight.
1. Select an aiming point at ground level that is about 50 meters (150 feet) in front of the mine.
2. Position the eye about 15 centimeters (6 inches) to the rear of the sight. Aim the mine by alining the two edges of the sight with the aiming point. (You can also place something on the blade sights, such as a pen, and sight along the pen. This is easier than aligning the edges)

The above answer is nonsense....sitting on them does nothing.....
The claymore is used for perimeter defense , or as an offensive weapon in an ambush. Yes...you want to have the front placed toward the enemy....in Vietnam sappers would sneak in and turn all the claymores around so when they went off they would spray friendlies and not the enemy....

A claymore is basically a remote controlled one shot shotgun. With limited range, but wide spread, I'd put it behind the wire perimeter. When the guys rush the wire and have to stop to go through it, then I'd set it off. Narrow passages, such as alley ways and jungle foot trails would work well too.

Doesn't much matter, as long as you can see it and the front is pointed toward the enemy. The enemy is what you want to be not alive anymore.

Ya pull down the tines and stick it where you want coverage. Remember, curved part out, tie off the det cord close to the mine so nothing jerks it out of position, and don't install the blasting cap until the line's laid out and everything's pretty much set; static electricity itself can set that bastard off. You'll wanna be at least a hundred feet behind and down, preferably behind some kinda rise or in a fighting position. In the unlikely event that it gets turned around on you, you'll still be relatively alright. Who are you again?

front goes toward your intended target.also you want to make sure it is camoflauged. You will also need a spot were you can have cover from the enemy. You have to set it off yourself unless you set up a good trip wire.
