Is the Riverside Drive area safe enough to commute alone in the evenings?

What about Broadway?

Morningside Heights is well protected. And there are always Columbia U. students milling about. On the weekdays, the evenings are safe if you are taking the 1 train. I would be a lot more cautious on the weekend when there is less pedestrian traffic. Columbia is such a fantastic university, it's worth the effort to go there.

I know the A train goes to 207 the 1 train crosses at Broadway and the Harlem River to go into Marble Hill (still in Manhattan) and you could probably use either train. Just don't exit the subway between the 170's till you're south of the 120's it's a shakey neighborhood. If you like bagels try H&H on the west side at Broadway and W. 80 Street.
