I have had Fibromyalgia for 8 years now, and because my husband is in the military we move around alot and I still have to deal with Doctor's that don't believe that this exists. My last doctor tried to make it seem like some made up illness. I hate going to the doctor's office and it ticks me off that some of these doctor's act like I have nothing else better to do than to complain about some made up disorder. I have the worst pains in my back everyday, I always feel like I have been hit by a truck in the mornings, I am so severly depressed it's pathetic. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or better yet anyone have Fibro and lives in San Diego and know of a great Rhuematologist? I am new to San Diego and don't know any here that can give me the help I need........I had a great one in Illinois

They really don't believe it exists? HOLY SH*T!!! Dumbest thing I have ever heard..
My best suggestion is phone your doctor in Illinois and ask who he would suggest in San Diego and maybe for a referral, that way the new doctor gets all you medical records as well.
Good Luck

You think you're having a hard time with doctors about it, my SO was first diagnosed with it when HE was 22. Now try to be a young adult male and try to convince these same people you have a middle aged woman disease! Man alive if I could tell you the shee it we've been through.

He has been diagnosed by 3 "westernized" doctors, 2 physiotherapists, a natropath and an acupunturist.

People don't believe it exists because they don't know the cause. They can't put it under a microscope. Though there is some research to suggest it is actually a thyroid disease. Apparently it first appeared after "standardized" TSH testing was introduced. Some people believe that the test includes many thyroid conditions into "normal".

Either way, I completely feel your pain (mental pain of frustration). I wish you luck.

If you can afford it, both my SO and this mother have both had REALLY good success with natropaths for treating Fibryo.

Good Luck, honestly!

You could search San Diego doctors' on the internet. For the specialist or pain clinics. Also, do you currently take anti-depressants? I do , it helps alot, as you know fibro patients are very depressed, just goes with it. I have had it for 3 yrs.and sympathize with you. Also, I have trouble sleeping too, my dr. says that is a big thing with fibro..... he says like 90% of fibro patients don't sleep well at all. Hope this helps. Would like to talk to you more..

Fibromyalgia is a disease that has been created in a category of diseases that have symptoms unexplainable by other disease or disease processes. There is a rough group of 'generalized' symptoms that pertain to many other diseases. This isn't a disease where you can pinpoint a bacterial infection, as you know. Nor is it one where an arthroscopy will reveal the torn tissue.

Sadly, our medical system here is extremely lacking. The health care here in the US now relies upon treating a condition with pharmaceuticals, and if it doesn't respond, either change the drug, or change the diagnosis. And as I'm sure you well know, you haven't been given a drug that is a cure-all. Those doctors questioning whether you have Fm are probably thinking outside the box, and some are regressing if they imply its in your head.

Some studies have shown that fibromyalgia symptoms can mimic those seen in fluoride toxicity. Did your husband serve in Iraq (the 1st time) and was he possibly exposed to nerve gas? If so, read this:

I would suggest yahoo-ing [fibromyalgia fluoride] and read through the sites. Just a note, fluoride is spelled with the u before the o. Good luck, I wish you well.

The problem is that there is no test to prove or disprove you have this disease. The doctor who discovered it said it was over diagnosed. As far as your doctors can't they look at your file and see what is going on? My experience with the military medics is not good so I don't have an answer for your problem with a doctor on base.

western medicines really don't help in this condition. the best method is mental relaxation, light exercises, and acupuncture.if there is an acupuncturist you can go to, you will get real relief, but you will have to work on yourself for cure.
