I heard that running or doing cardio after lifting weights breaks up muscle mass that you just built. Is this true?

not at all. it all depends on the level of intensity that exercise is performed at and the total length of the exercise session. when training at a high level of intensity you want to keep the total training time to 2 hours or less. after that the levels of catabolic hormones rise drastically and this has a negative effect on the recover time from exercise which effects the rate of growth.

Before I developed cancer, I belonged to a gym. The trainer I had recommended using the tread mill after my weight work outs. I do not feel that it breaks up muscle mass. You need a good cardio work out also. The tread mill is the best for that. Less stress on your knees and feet.

dude youve got it all wrong

lifting weights breaks muscle mass

its when you REST that muscle is built

its best to do cardio separate from weights
but if you have to do them together
do cardio first

your body will be properly warmed up then

trying to do cardio after lifting weights is not good

think about it

its like trying to run with a strained muscle

When you lift weights- this creates tiny tears in the muscles....at rest they recover and the muscle builds.
Cardio AFTER weights is the best way if you want to be lean and muscley.
Cardio before weights often means your core muscles are too tired to keep correct form when using the weights.

No, it is the other way round. You shouldn't do cardio right before weights. I always do weights before cardio or do them on separate days.

Not true at all. You do not build muscle mass while you work out, you build it while you rest.
