Watched the press conference, and Jr said the #8 belonged to DEI. But then read online under one of the sports commentators stories that under his BUD contract that Budweiser reserves the right to terminates their contract if he, Dale Jr, does not drive the #8 car. Does anyone know or heard about this? AND could he not "buy" the #8 from DEI, or whomever/whatever Team/Owner he goes to could they not buy it out?

Bud wiil stay with Jr no matter what his number is. DEi owns the rights to the number and could sell it to whomever gets Dale, but there is no chance of that witch selling it to anyone.

The question you ask about the Bud contract is more for protection of Budweiser not having to sponsor someone they don't like. Kind of like DEI saying, "We're firing this driver and you guys are going to have to sponsor this no-name rookie"... think about that, one of the sport's biggest sponsor having to back a rookie!!!

Bud WILL follow JR wherever he goes.... regardless of which team, which manufacturer, or what number he runs.

Budweiser can follow Dale to his new team. But the number 8 is DEI's number. So he can't take that with him. He possibly could pay DEI to release the number and then his new team could try to get it. But who cares. It's a number.

Two schools of thought. If Junior does not drive #8 for D E I then Bud cancels contract. If Junior goes to another team then Bud goes with him.
This was brought up on a sports talk show this morning.

He has to get permission to use the # 8 from DEI and considerin that he is leavin them up shits creek, doubt that would happen.
