For the taste, and the buzz you get from it

A lot of reasons.

Many alcoholic beverages taste good with food.

Some people drink heavily to escape their lives.

I'd say that a drink or two is likely to have positive impacts on many people, by which I mean a mild lifting of spirits, relaxation, openness, etc. Socializing over food and drink is an age old custom because people feel more relaxed and open up. The problem is when people drink too much they may relax and open up a little too much ...

I drink because I love the 'tipsy' feeling. My lips get a little numb, my confidence increases, and life seems perfect! I usually drink to celebrate something, like the end of finals week! It's nice because you just forget about all of your problems for once. It's not good to make drinking a habit though! Make sure it's only a 'once in a while' thing.

If you're planning on drinking soon, don't drink too much! It's
never good! You just end up barfing. Everything just starts spinning and the next morning is miserable (i.e. pounding headache, foggy head, drowsy). Also, if you drink way over your limit you can get alcohol poisoning. My boyfriend experienced this first hand. Ending up in the hospital is not good, especially if you're underage.

Check out this site to make sure you're not drinking too much! Aim toward getting tipsy, not inebriated. Good luck!

There's no one answer, it depends on the person...

Some people do it for social reasons (at dinner or with coworkers at the end of the week)... sure they might get drunk or they might not, its not the point, its just to have a good time

Then you have your alcoholics that do it solely to get drunk...it doesn't matter what type of alcohol it is even, so long as they get the desired effect...

Alcohol in and of itself is fine, its just the person that has it..

altered states of consciousness are a natural inclination of our species. and it tastes good, especially a fine single malt or a great Cabernet. Dare I leave out a hearty ale?

To get drunk, lose their inhibitions, and hopefully make friends. At least, that's how it starts. It's certainly not for the taste. Never was for me, anyway. Well... then again, Long Island's aren't so bad.
