the Bible is clear that the "soul" is a person and every personality quirk that makes them unique. The soul is every little thing that makes you you, so when you die you are no longer you, you are returned to dust and an inanimate rotting corpse. But if you die, YHWH/Jehovah has the ability to remember every little detail about every soul and resurrect you in a new body on the last day of satans wicked world and the first day of God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. This is the free gift of God that He gives to His faithful servants who choose to be "no part of this world" and its haughty, satan-invented, self-rule politics and instead choose to do his "will" Matthew 7:21
its interesting to note that satan deceived Eve by lying to her and telling her she would not die (Genesis 3:4) now most religions in the world teach that after your body dies that you go on living in some other realm... that you do not die...
Most of the world's religions still believe in satan's original lie. You will find very few religions that believe YHWH/Jehovah who gave Solomon the wisdom to write Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20 & 9:5, and David to write Psalm 146:4 and Moses to record what Jehovah told Adam at Genesis 3:19 telling us exactly what happens to us when we die. And when is the resurrection of those who are asleep in death?
Yhshua/Jesus tells us at John 5:28, 29; John 11:11
And before that Daniel was told by Jehovah to write Daniel 12:2. All these Scriptures expose satan's first deception that "you will not die" as the satanic lie that it is!
agape!

If you go back to the original Hebrew word Nephesh, and the Greek word psykhe, both used in the old and new testaments respectively, soul means a living body. Even animals are referred to as souls, so the soul ceases to be at death. Spirit now, aka the breath of God aka the Holy Spirit, continues on. That is why we say ashes to ashes and dust to dust, because the biological organism dies and returns to the earth from whence it came, while the spirit returns to God. This is all just technical Bible translation, however, the Bible also gives the promise of a Resurrection after the last day, and says that every hair on your head has been counted, so fear not, another body will be made and the Holy Spirit, which remembers you, will be breathed into the new body on a new earth for you. So in the meantime, you cease to be, as in a dreamless sleep.

Well, all we really have to go on is the Bible, and this is what it says...
Ecclesiastes 3:19 & 20: "For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity. 20Â All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust."
Ecclesiastes 9:5: "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten."
Ezekiel 18:4b: "The soul that is sinning—it itself will die."
(Romans 3:23) “. . .For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
So it would seem that the soul dies...Genesis 2:7 gives us some insight into what the soul is, and the fact that we are a living soul, the idea that we have a soul that separates from our bodies at death is not a Biblical teaching, but rather one of men's ideas...a philosophical idea, and not factual...
(Genesis 2:7) “. . .And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. . .”
(Genesis 1:20) “. . .And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.”. . .”
So all living, breathing beings are considered souls

It dies with you because you are the soul, it is not something separate thing, you are it and it is you.
Genesis refers to all living breathing things as souls.
Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 tell us what happens at death and to the soul.

In Genesis God formed the man out of the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils, the breath of life, and he BECAME a "living soul". Man did not HAVE a soul...He WAS a soul.
So if the breath goes out of someone and he dies, he ceases to be a "living soul". He is a "dead soul".
Since we are all from Adam and Adam sinned we all sin. The scriptures say the soul that is sinning, it itself, will die.
Animals were also called souls in Genesis. They didn't have souls.
When you die...the memory ( not a soul) of you goes back to God. When he resurrects the dead he will remember you and raise you also.

And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.” __Genesis 2:16,17
Being a God of justice, Jehovah did not change the penalty for sin after Adam sinned from death to eternal torment. He said "...For dust you are and to dust you will return.”Genesis 3:19 Adams descendants are also dust. At Ezekiel 18:4 God himself says "Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die" The soul itself dies. The person himself dies. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says: "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol(hell), the place to which you are going" Once a person is dead, there is just -nothing. All hope of a future life rest with God.
Also Romans 6:23 points out "For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord." The penalty for sin is not eternal torment, but death.

We return to where we truly belong, earth is but a school, a place for us to experience life in a body. The body is our only true home whilst incarnated upon this planet, once you realise you are an in dimensional being of light who is the master of their own destiny, unable to 'die' you will begin to open up to the magnificent being you are, and by doing that you will begin to remember why you are here. Spend time being still, listening to your soul, all the answers to all your question lie within. If you want more information read Courageous Souls a fantastic book just released. Hope this helps.

It immediately leaves the body. That is why the body stops functioning. It is a house your soul lives in, and when nobody is home there is no activity.
When the soul leaves the body it either descends to Hell or rises to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. People who know Christ as their Saviour are happy to hear this news.
Those who don't know Christ as their Saviour either want to know the truth and nobody has shared it with them, totally hate
and reject the truth or live in denial of the truth.
God's word will not change to accomodate anyone. Believe it or Not is Ripley's famous line. It is true in this case too.

It actually depends on the teachings of one's religion. As a Christian-Catholic, we believe that God will judge one's soul where he/she should go-eternal happiness or eternal fire. There's also purgatory where souls get cleansed. During the end of days, purgatory will be no more and the good souls unite with their resurrected bodies.
Other religions believe in reincarnation but it all depends on what you believe actually.
God bless! Always!
