Yes. In most of Europe (where the Holocaust took place), the Jews had only been allowed to leave the shtetls (essentially village ghettoes since they weren't allowed to live amongst non-Jews) in the late 1800s- in most countries of Europe they were only allowed entry into universities etc at the same time, some restricting Jewish entry into universities into the 1920s.

The majority of the Jews in Eastern Europe still lived in shtetls in secluded cmmunities up until the Nazis (yemach shemachim) arrived and moved them into the larger ghettoes before moving them into the camps. The vast majority of Jews lived in these shtetls, quietly, peacefully and with very little contact with the outside world. The most cosmopolitan of the Jewish communities was probably that of Germany- and there they were clustered into the professional and academic fields- forsaking Orthodox Judaism for Reform Judaism to better operate in the outside world (Reform Judaism started in Germany towards the end of the nineteenth century.)

How violent can a small minority be?

Better yet why dont you look for any evidence of Jewish violence around the early 20's and 30's in Europe, particular in Germany.

the holocaust wasn't the only bad thing to happen to the Jews. i suggest you read up on your history. we are still peaceful after being slaves in egypt for a long time and wandering in the desert for forty years, and then being kicked out of every country we try to find a home in. then people are surprised when we fight back.

No nation has a history of peace..especially back then..they wouldn't have been able to survive in that world if they were a bunch of peace loving hippies.
