the best way is for a whole family to start eating healthy and exercising. dont buy junk food and sweets and keep healthy options in sight so they can grab them easily (e.g. put a bowl of fruits on dining table)
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

she should not be worring bout her weight at such a young age but if she interested in being healthy then encourage her as much as you can. let her eat salads, fruits and veggies, dont let her eat fast foods lots of fried foods or large portions. if you too need to loose a few pounds you can eat healthy together and you both will be each others encouragment. do not do diets, this is really not healthy for a 9 year old, let her exercise with you like walking every other day or just going outside to play can help too. it will be good if she is more into how to stay healthy than the weight issue. and make sure you tell her how proud of her that you are when she sticks to eating healthy and excercising. this will encourage her also good luck to the both of you

First you ought to visit a pediatrician to determine whether she needs to lose weight or redistribute it, and how much she needs to change.

The best ways to lose weight are through diet and exercise, but with a child you need to find out from a health professional how to go about doing this without causing health problems for the girl.

She has nutritional needs, and those need to be met. It's even possible she may not need to lose weight.

Being 9 years old, she will gain or redistribute weight as she gets older. You want to make sure that happens in the right ways. Children are not all the same.

Fun activities. Try going on bike rides, if there is a beach or lake, spend a day out there. Take her out to fun things that she would like. But be careful not to encourage her too much. A 9 year old should not be worried about that....it could cause serious self esteem issues later.

Cut down on sweets, have her drink skim milk or water, and let her go out and play! Don't let her sit in front of a TV or computer for hours upon hours. 9 year olds might lose any body fat when they go through puberty, so I wouldn't be in a hurry for her to go on a diet.

Any child that is wanting to lose weight needs to be doing so by doctors orders only. Not only that, but if you are concerned, talk it over with your doctor and ask him or her to refer you and your child to a nutritionist. Do NOT try to diet your child yourself, or over exercise them. You can do more damage than good.

My daughter had the same problem. She started swimming everyday & playing on the trampoline. She also started eating less portions at meal time. Drink a lot of water & stay away from the soda & juice drinks
