The resurrection of Jesus is a testimony to the resurrection of human beings, which is a basic tenet of the Christian faith. Unlike all other religions, Christianity alone possesses a founder who transcends death and who promises that His followers will do the same. All other (false) religions were founded by men and prophets whose end was the grave. As Christians, we take comfort in the fact that our God became man, died for our sins, was killed, and was resurrected the third day. The grave could not hold Him.

Yes, Jesus died in order to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and ensure that we would not have to.
He rose from the dead so that we could eventually be resurrected into His kingdom, where He goes to prepare a place for us.
Also, some examples of "Regular People" in the Bible who were resurrected:
the little girl who died and Jesus rose from the dead
Lazarus
the two witnesses spoken of in Revelation-hasn't happened yet, but it will.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw high seats, and they were seated on them, and the right of judging was given to them: and I saw the souls of those who were put to death for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and those who did not give worship to the beast, or to his image, and had not his mark on their brows or on their hands; and they were living and ruling with Christ a thousand years. ( The Elect)
5 The rest of the dead did not come to life again till the thousand years were ended. This is the first coming back from the dead (Referring to verse 4).6 Happy and holy is he who has a part in this first coming: over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will be ruling with him a thousand years.
The righteous dead will be ressurected (as spirit) and reign with Christ for a thousand years, then the rest of the dead will be raised (In a fleshly body) and given an opportunity to know God.

Not for an ordinary person. Christ wasn't actually dead. He was in a mystic trance of deep samadi and all life airs where stopped. They took him down from the cross and when he was in the cave he reawakened and was removed from the cave and went on preaching in other lands. In teh Vedas there is a story of a great Devotee of The Lord named Hari Dasa Thakura. He also rose from a similar situation. Not a cross but they beat him to so called death. BUt He was in a mystic trance. They threw him in the Gangies river and he ended up in another town totally well and fine.

It has been promised;
(Revelation 20:12-13) And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. But another scroll was opened; it is the scroll of life. And the dead were judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds. 13Â And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Ha′des gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds.
