ok. this may be a dumb question. i'm extremely unfamiliarized with colleges. but i gotta go one in order to enter pharmacy. i've been searching about the pre-requisite courses and their equivalent to uiversity courses (whatever that means...). it says something like...

6 hours of General Biology BIOL 16 BIOL 34
4 hours of Microbiology BIOL 56
3 hours of Genetics BIOL 55
8 hrs of General Chemistry CHEM 15 CHEM 16

how does it work? please help me.
thanks a lot

Ok there is a better way to put this. On average, each college class is worth 3 hours of credit toward your degree.
So you will take...
*Two Biology Classes, BIOL 16 and BIOL 34 (these are the abbreviations for course names)
* One Microbiology Course (BIOL 56) which probably includes a lab
* One Genetics class (called BIOL 55)
* And two chemistry classes (CHEM 15 and CHEM 16), both of which probably have labs.

Labs are usually an additional ONE credit hour on top of the standard THREE credit hours a class is worth.

I can surely see why it's tough. You're thinking hours and they are thinking CREDIT hours. BIG DIFFERENCE! (and you knew it, you just didn't know how!) Each course is a certain amount of credit hours...example: BIO 101 - 3 cr hours. That means during a semester you will take BIO 101, maybe on M-W-R (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 6-9pm. You receive 3 credit hours when you successfully pass that class.

So from what you've written I would say you need 6 credit hours in Gen. Bio, which is either BIOL 16, or BIOL 34 in your catalog. (so two semesters worth)

4 credit hours of Microbiology BIOL 56 in your catalog

3 credit hours of Genetics, BIOL 55 in your catalog
etc....

I would make an appt. to see an advisor at the college of your choice for clarification.

Remember, there is no dumb question....unless it is left unasked.

Good luck!

For pharmacy, you have to take the two general biology courses, and that is normally 10 hours of credit.
