I went to Medline (via Pubmed) to try to find some data on this issue. I didn't find a lot, but a recent study in Sweden looked at two different groups of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (considered to be the first option for gallbladder surgery).
In the healthier group of 724 patients, the researchers found a 60% increased chance of death within 90 days of the surgery (compared to the chance of death in similar patients not receiving surgery).
In a much less healthy group of 993 patients, the researchers found a 342% increased risk of death within 90 days of surgery.
So, there is a serious risk, as with any surgery. The risk is dramatically higher if the patient has other/additional health problems.

I have four friends who have had gall bladder surgery. Two out of three they blamed it on blood clots, one was 29, the other was 35 years old, another died 6 months later she was 45, the fourth is still alive, but has digestive issues and cannot eat most foods.

I had my gall bladder out when I was 20....The actual gall bladder surgery was fine, just a laparoscopic surgery..however the Dr was "stretching" me and acidentally dislocated my shoulder, its been 13 years since my surgery and my shoulder still hurts...

Never heard of even 1 person dying from this. However any surgery can have complications even the most minor ones.

One is made slightly below the tummy button. 2 greater are made in the tummy above the superb hip. A fourth is mandatory slightly below the ribs in the midst of the chest. A tiny, lighted scope is inserted by way of one incision. Miniature, distant-controlled surgical equipment are inserted by way of the others. to grant the familiar practitioner an unobstructed view, the tummy is inflated with carbon dioxide gasoline by way of the technique. Like an open cholecystectomy, the operation takes a million to 2 hours. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, your scientific institution stay could be under an afternoon. for the duration of the operation, the familiar practitioner will verify for stones in the duct that drains the gallbladder, and eliminate them as nicely. hazards in spite of the incontrovertible fact that gallstones often would nicely be dissolved by way of drugs or shattered by way of sound waves, the subject is probable to recur if those approaches are used. removal of the gallbladder supplies you the only everlasting answer. like numerous surgical treatment, the operation poses a threat of inner bleeding or an infection; and blood clots ought to form and hotel in the lungs, making it perplexing to breath. frequently, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the technique is particularly secure.
