it can b done very simply with ms paint which is very sure to b in ur computer.
Another quality program with easy operations is Google picasa(can download it free here http://angle-mine.blogspot.com ) which has many latest photo effects too.

In photoshop: Go to the Image pull down menu then to Mode and select Grayscale or open the saturation menu box(shortcut CTRL U) and under the saturation slidebar, move the slider to the left and you will see your image turn to black and white.

I like to use gradient mapping. Select image> adjustments> gradient map, then select the B&W from the drop down menu. Then maybe tweak levels a bit and you're done.
