It is a widely held view that one or two standard drinks per day is good for one's health.

It has also been a popular idea that red wine is the best for this.

Do you believe this, or will any alcohol in the form or 1-2 standard drinks do the job?

I guess it's true i hear that a lot too. But then you think it is alcohol how can it be good for you? Isn't having a drink or two everyday make you an alcoholic? I don't know it's weird. I love wine so if it's good for me i'd love it even more

Red wine has an anti-oxidant called resveritol. This isn't found in other alcohols. I'll leave a web site that gives more details.

Red wine and dark beer have antioxidants that are good for the heart and are anti-cancer. The alcohol component (ethanol) is bad for you (liver damage, kidney problems, dehydrates you etc). Red wine / dark beer in small quantities are good for you, but bad in large amounts. Other types of alcohol are generally bad -- although intravenous injection of ethanol is the standard way of treating methanol poisoning.

Alcohol thins blood and helps the circulation when used in moderation. Red wine also has anti-oxidants particular to red wine among alcohols but these anti-oxidants can also be found in blueberries and grapes I hear.
