Captain in the Navy is far different then the Air Force.
To reach O-3 (Captain in the Air Force, full LT in the Navy) I'd say 4-6 years.
To reach O-6 (Colonel in the Air Force, Captain in the Navy) I'd say 15-20 years. 15 being fairly fast but not unheard of.

First a Captain in the air force is different than a Captain in the Navy. The rank insignia for a USAF Captain is two silver bars which is the insignia for a Lieutenant. A Navy Captain wears the eagle for a rank insignia which is the same as a Full Colonel.

In the Air Force, about 3 years. In the Navy, at least 14 years, probably closer to 18.

first off there is a big difference between a captain in the navy/airforce. [ navy is an 05 wearas in the airforce it is an 03 ] in the navy it normally takes about 15-18 years and i would think in the airforce it would take about 6-8 years.as you can read the difference in pay grade which one has more responicble.

you're eligible on the 4-365 days factor after your commissioning date, not your date of enlistment. promoting is by way of exception now, because of the fact of this till you somewhat screwed up you would be picked up for O3.
