Yes, exactly, the directions are to meditate on this, and soon or eventually you should receive the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes it is recommended you offer a symbolic gift in anticipation, such as a special prayer at the beginning of the day, a few sentences.
Some advise to work through the things which come to you as you are wondering if the Holy Spirit is closer today than before. This clears your spirit, and allows faster access.
It is interesting you included the answer in your question.
My mom lived for several years with a bishop in Providence, and the two biological sisters whom cared for him and his house. He often intoned to her, the Holy Spirit, And may the Holy Spirit bless you today, Anna, he would say. Just a sentence or two, and add, and may he guide you through the French exam (her concern for her life this day), etc. and it was believed this did help. Pray for protection and guidance. She said the bishop's prayer often helped her as she tried to pass an exam, and would never think of or remember the answer, unless she remembered the bishop wishing her the Holy Spirit. She said it is never to be fooled with, and use it personally for your own good. You can help your children with it, although she didn't know any more about it. It does take a small prayer, and belief in the overall Christian views. Good luck.

The first two top contributors have mostly sound advice. I would add that it is received by faith, like every other gift from God, and not by signs, emotions or even the laying on of hands.
There should however be some emotion following and continuing. Some say you must speak in tongues and you might, other point to other gifts. The true measure is a love in your heart that transcends what you are capable of and the fruits of the spirit will be natural to you.
If you repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (not father, son and holy ghost) then God is obligated to give you the Holy Spirit and desires to reside with you as the comforter and spirit of truth.
Seek this with all your heart as this is true conversion and the real born again experience. I urge you to seek this; for without the Holy Spirit it is next to impossible to live a Christian life in this Sodom age; or to count yourself among the wise virgins who will be seated at the wedding supper..

I started learning about god ' the father ' and Jesus Christ " the son " and the Holy Spirit while in the service and prayed for knowledge while studying the King James Bible and learning as much as I could but the knowledge was not enough I received the holy spirit after fully accepting our lord Jesus Christ into my life, with his help changing my life for the better. To this day I am glad that I was given the chance and do not have any regrets praise the father, son, and holy spirit - AMEN!! Good luck.

I thought we are born with it, but need to sincerely pray to God in order to get the understanding the Holy Spirit gives us. I don't know if this is accurate, though. I do know that at a time I kind of believed in God, but didn't truly believe until I had prayed for his help. It was like a light switch. That gives me the indication that's when I really was in tune with the Holy Spirit. Although now that I think about it, my Mom had me baptized as a baby through the Catholic Church, but she never taught me Christianity or read the Bible with me. This is what I found in Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

That's amazing that you want to do that!!
What you do is confess your sins before God, and pray to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. At that moment, He will start inhabiting your life!!
Remember, Christianity isn't about feelings. There's going to be days when you don't "feel" saved. But remember, Jesus said that He will "never leave you nor forsake you". He's always right by your side. Also, the Bible says "He loses not one". Once you receive the gift of salvation, it's yours for keeps. God isn't an indian giver. He's adopting you into His family... you won't be kicked out. He may discipline you, but He chastises those whom He loves, like a Father.
I hope this helps you!! If you have more questions, go talk with a pastor at a local church!! They would love to cousel you in your walk!

A key verse that discusses the filling of the Holy Spirit in this age is John 14:16, where Jesus promised the Spirit would indwell believers and that the indwelling would be permanent. It is important to distinguish the indwelling and filling of the Spirit. The permanent indwelling of the Spirit is not for a select few believers, but rather for all believers. There are a number of references in Scripture that supports this conclusion. The first is that the Holy Spirit is a gift given to all believers in Jesus without exception, and no conditions are placed upon this gift except faith in Christ (John 7:37-39). The second is that the Holy Spirit is given at salvation. Ephesians 1:13 indicates that the Holy Spirit is given at the moment of salvation. Galatians 3:2 also emphasizes this same truth, saying that the sealing and indwelling with the Spirit took place at the time of believing. Third, the Holy Spirit indwells believers permanently. The Holy Spirit is given to believers as a down payment, or verification of their future glorification in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 4:30).
This is in contrast to the filling of the Spirit command found in Ephesians 5:18. We should be so completely yielded to the Holy Spirit that He can possess us fully, and in that sense, fill us. Romans 8:9 and Ephesians 1:13-14 state that He dwells within every believer, but He can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30), and His activity within us can be quenched (1 Thessalonians 5:19). When we allow this to happen, we do not experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit's working and power in and through us. To be filled with the Spirit implies freedom for Him to occupy every part of our lives, guiding and controlling us. His power then can be exerted through us so that what we do is fruitful to God. The filling of the Spirit does not apply to outward acts alone; it also applies to the innermost thoughts and motives of our actions. Psalm 19:14 says, "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable to you, O Lord my strength, and my redeemer."
Sin is what separates us from the filling of the Holy Spirit, and obedience to God is how the filling of the Spirit is maintained. Although our focus should be to be filled as Ephesians 5:18 commands, praying for the filling of the Holy Spirit is not what accomplishes the filling of the Spirit. Only our obedience to God's commands allows the Spirit freedom to work within us. Because we are sinful creatures, it is impossible to be filled with the Spirit all of the time. We should immediately deal with sin in our lives, and renew our commitment to being Spirit-filled and Spirit-led.

If you are a born-again believer in Christ, you have already received the Holy Spirit. However, if you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit so you can better serve the Lord, just ask God for that in prayer.

Please ask your religious leader - and not here.
You probably need a course, or program of study, and no one here knows this but your religious leader.
I haven't looked but most of your answers will not help - because no one knows, and some are giving you a hard time for asking this.
The Holy Spirit is a serious quest. Not usually started in this forum, where if you are not careful people will sway you into NOT starting this important quest, but lead you astray.
Please visit your church soon, and get on the path you want.
Peace.

I have been reading over some of the answers you have gotten, and please be selective. I was saved about 6 years ago, and I asked JESUS CHRIST to come into my life to save me for I knew that I was a sinner, and could not be right in GOD'S eyes unless I had JESUS CHRIST living in me. Many times people think that asking JESUS into your life is like a magic pill, what I mean by this is that people think that they can recieve CHRIST and then go on living life the same way they did before. People want to be saved from the consequences of hell, rather than the fact that all of us have sinned and are in need of a SAVIOR. Many times I hear from those that claim to be christians, but really just believe in god that god knows my heart and he will forgive me of my sins. GOD really does know your heart and does watch who will obey what he says. This is terrible because they are in continual sin and just take advantage of GOD'S grace thinking that GOD will look past their disobedience, when in reality if you continue to sin and do not feel the HOLY SPIRIT telling you NO!!!! then there is something wrong. If you ask CHRIST to come into your life knowing that HE died for the sins of the world, and then GOD raised HIM from the dead on the third day then you will be SAVED. Please want to be changed from your old life and not just saved from your consequences. Know this that faith without works is dead. After you ask CHRIST into your life you should notice a change in how you feel, you should want to read the BIBLE, and you should want to attend a BIBLE believing church, and you should want to pray and keep very close to JESUS. These are good indications that GOD did know your heart and that you really wanted JESUS to come in and make a home inside of you. GOD will not force HIS way into your life, HE has to be asked because of the free will HE gave you and me. If you invite HIM in with a whole heart, JESUS will come in and save you.
Hope this helps you
Please make this decision today
GOD will change your life.
