Pelear means fight in the sense of two people fighting.

Luchar can mean the same thing, but it also means fight in the sense of struggle. When politicians say they will "fight to keep Social Security," for example, it's the kind of fight that you would translate as "luchar." If a politician used the word "pelear" it would mean he/she was actually in the Congress punching and kicking other members.

Batallar also means fight in the sense of battling. I've heard people use it when they're going thru a hard time economically. Batallo para pagar las cuentas.
