Well the answer to your qeution why dont truckers pick up their blown out tires is.! By the time you get the truck stopped the tire is a good half a mile away also there is no place to put a blown tire on a truck and finally would you want to go into a highway or freeway and dodge idiots that drive cars to do what our road tax dollars we pay the state to do

I believe Jim that I have also seen small little rubbers along the highways. Explain to me why four inch wheelers don't pick up they're blown tires, they're trash, they're fallen off exhost, etc.... Why, because it is the highway departments job. Now had you asked why All Driver's don't check they're tire pressure, so that there aren't as many treads on the roadways, then that would have been a serious question. Since the majority of treads on the roads, are due to improper tire inflation. Hence, not as much of an eye sore! How often due you check your tire pressure?

In a lot of cases the driver doesn't know that his recap has come off until he's driven a few miles on a damaged tire.
Secondly a loaded semi truck won't stop on a dime. By the time the driver knew he lost a recap and was able to stop the truck, the old rubber could be a few miles down the road.
Lastly, would YOU want to walk out onto a freeway with cars and trucks driving anywhere between 60 and 80 MPH to retrieve a chunk of rubber?
I'll pass, thanks.

Those aren't blown-out tyres, they are thrown treads. Most highway trailer tyres are recapped, and the driver wouldn't even feel the loss of a chunk of tread from the back of the trailer.

It is the responsibility of the highway department of that area to keep the roadway clear of debris, especially hazardous things such as a blown semi tire.

No Time! They are on a pretty tight schedule, at least; most of them are anyway. The Highway Dept. should hire some people for this task. Might bring the Unemployment rate down a little!!

Not only are they an eyesore, but they are also very dangerous. I've stopped to help many people who have swerved to avoid them and lost control, or else blown out a tire due to running them over. I think it should be a law for them to clean up their tires. I would realy like to know the statistics on how many accidents have been caused by re-treads left on the road.

I agree. But a lot of times the tires start shredding for several miles before they even realize that there is a problem, so it may be they don't know.........

Ill agree with some of the other answers... they most likely dont notice.. and if they did right away who would want to walk across the interstate to get the chunks of rubber in 75mph+ traffic?...not me.
