i dont understand. i hear it mostly from christians on here but im sure it goes for all the faiths. there is no possible way to prove that your religion is right. all the major religions say that thier holy book is the word of god therefore it must be fact, so who is right if their are so many different versions of what god is?

Because spiritual beliefs cut to the very heart of who a person is (even the atheist spiritual belief that there is no god). Beliefs that strong often feel like "knowledge," hence the idea that one "knows" the "truth."
The ONLY "knowledge" we have is that we do not know. WE DO NOT KNOW.

First of all, Christianity is not a religion.....it is a faith. Religion is a way to control the masses, and Cristianity simply promises eternal life if you believe in and have faith in Jesus. I have a question for you...Why is it that so many people depend on visible, tangible proof to believe in the supernatural when most of science is based on theory anyways? God warned us in the beginning to watch out for false gods and idols, so I guess he was right.

Because its a good sales pitch. Some one's got to say she's 100% certain so that one's religion gets more members. Throw in a heaven as an added bonus and bring on a threat of hell to scare the people's pants off. (This is not true for all religions, yes. But haven't you noticed why the "strong and so certain" religions have the greater following?) To all those who were offended, I'm really sorry. I don't imply anything about your persona, just about your religion.

Either they're all right or none is.
Or maybe one of the hundreds (thousands? millions?) of faiths is actually the only right one and those few people will be laughing their asses off at Judgement Day or whatever they believe in.
But to answer your question, "why does every religion think they have the one true faith," the answer is because otherwise what would be the point?

In the absence of any other knowledge these beliefs fill the gaps where there is no understanding, but in the modern western world where there is so much accumulated knowledge, the phenominon is unforgivable, and actively choosing the path of ignorance and then foisting it upon young minds should be outlawed.
Sheer pig ignorance in this case..!!

People often use the term "Almighty" when describing God. The term almighty means "having unlimited power", yet this “almighty” needs our prayer? That is a gross contradiction. A God that kills first born children may be almighty, but it shows a serious emotional problem if he needs our justification. Something that is not a good description of a god.

You decide. Don't go by what they tell you. Study and experience, then create your own testimony on what you believe to be true.
