All bodies are supposed to have fat - how much depends on your sex, your age and your build.
Forget all the anti-fat freaks. Of course, people shouldn't be morbidly obese, but focus more on how much you can exercise - how fit are you? Can you get through your daily activities? Do you live an active lifestyle? Do you enjoy your life? Do you limit things you do because you are not fit enough? Having good, honest answers to these questions is much more important than knowing your girth at various elevations.
There is a lot of hype these days about fat. A dear friend of mine is in the first year of menopause. Her doctor told her to lose weight. A nigh on impossible task for a woman in early menopause. Why? Because as a woman's ovaries fail and her estrogen levels drop, her body naturally puts on a nice, healthy layer of fat, because fat produces estrogen and that estrogen produced by her fat will help protect her overall health as she ages.
Skinny chicks die young. Not to mention miserable from all that self-denial.
Eat good food from recognizable sources. Do not eat fake food. No fake sugar, no fake fat. Eat stuff that used to be alive (animal or vegetable) and has had as little processing as possible.
Help other people whenever possible.
Take good care of yourself so that you can enjoy doing things with your loved ones.
Spend some time every day doing something you enjoy.
Buy good, quality clothes that fit, that you love, and that look great on you.
Meet your Creator, so that when your time comes, you don't have to die in fear.
When you occupy yourself doing good, important things, you will find that there won't be time to worry about body fat because you're too busy enjoying the life you were given!

Yes. For a woman, about 10% of body weight should be fat. Lower than this and the body believes it's starving, resulting in disruption of menstrual cycles and harm to several other biological functions. Higher levels than this are OK, but lower is definitely dangerous.
There's no equally clear threats for men from low fat levels, but generally up to about 15 - 20% you have no need to worry about fat. Age is also a factor; fat percentage generally rises as you age, even for those who are very fit and healthy.
