That depends on the function and how late you are. 45 minutes late to an intimate dinner party? Yes, disrespectful. 60 minutes late to a large, casual gathering, like an all-day cookout or pool party? Probably ok.

A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself if you'll be sorely missed, or if your tardiness will put someone else -- like the hosts -- out.

YES you must be within 5 minutes of the time of the invitation. I am surprised you didnt know that

Yes for the first impression it is disrespectful no matter what the reasons are...

However if it is like a wedding diner, and it is a norm then it will not be disrespectful...

It is rude. For a cook-out you have a 15 or 20 minute leeway before you are considered late. For a sit down dinner, no leeway. If it is unavoidable please let your host know.
