Like I've said before on this site, welcome to Canada. It is legal all over this great country! We have had many Americans and if I'm not mistaken, some celebrity couples, exchange vows here (Rosie O'Donnell and her partner went to Atlantic Canada I believe). You are close to Quebec and Ontario. Montreal would be a romantic city to get married in (the ability to speak French not required). Toronto would be nice too if you like the nightlife. Ottawa has rich history and great architecture and Quebec city is quite lovely. What ever you decide, all the best to you! We're not as backwards and redneck as everyone thinks!!

Hey girl. Another PA person here. I'm sure you are already aware that the marriage will not be upheld/recognized when you come back to Pennsylvania, but if you are asking where you and your girlfriend can go to have the ceremony and actually get a document stating you are married, just for your own commitment, then Massachusetts is the place here in the States where you can go. Or, as one other poster mentioned, Canada is an option out of the US.

It is a shame that the certificate you will get from Canada or Massachusetts does not entitle you to equal rights here in Pennsylvania. As much as we have fought, unfortunately PA does not recognize civil unions or marriage for gay/lesbian couples. I hope with all of my heart that this changes soon. Unfortunately, considering how backwards and conservative Pennsylvania is with much of their laws (For example, our horrible Liquor laws) I'm afraid we will be one of the last states to eventually recognize equal rights for all mature, responsible consenting adults, regardless of gender/sexuality.

I wish you the best of luck, honey. Best wishes for you and your partner.

Here is the thing if you don't live in the states that recognize same sex marriage you aren't married.

They are: New Jersey,Massachusetts and states that allow same-sex partnerships: California, Connecticut, Vermont

Many homosexuals have gone into these states and other countries to get married only to find out when they get back home they are not married. You can't file your taxes together, you don't get any of the inheritance nor insurance benefits, and you aren't considered next of kin. If you want to get married and be considered married you MUST move and live in those states or countries.

You can have a 'commitment' ceremony anywhere in the world. It is not legally recognized, but is a ceremony wherein you take vows to each other, and perform the spiritual part of a wedding.

Mass. will accept your union as legal, but other states won't recognize it as valid.
Your personal choice.
I perform commitment ceremonies for same sex, and hetero, couples all the time. Not everyone wants the full legal wedding, but if you live together as partners, some people like to celebrate their commitment to each other with friends and family at such a gathering.
good luck,

Civil unions

Main article: Civil union

Civil unions, domestic partnerships or registered partnerships offer varying amounts of the benefits of marriage and are available in: Andorra, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. They are also available in parts of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the U.S. states of California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, Vermont, and Washington, and the U.S. District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.), but are not currently available in all Australian states and territories.[10]

I also believe they are available in Massachusetts.
