No worries. All you need to do to control your eating is portion control. For example, when eating a cheeseburger, only eat half because this will increase your metabolism and give you a good amount of calories to burn at a faster rate. Whenever you feel like giving into a certain food, just think of how embarrassing it will be to be on the bottom of the pyramid because you chose to eat the whole cheeseburger. You wouldn't believe the way calories add up.
As for exercising, crunches are lifesavers...maybe 50 a night, but you can add on to increase the level of difficulty. Push ups are amazing for toning your arms, and are great for that cheerleader strength you'll need. Simple exercises are the best when it comes to losing weight...fast.
I've been in the same position, and this has helped me lose weight...so hope I helped.

1.Check food labels and look at how much sugar and total fat there are. If there is more than 10 grams of sugar or 15 grams of fat, don't eat it. Every 3 days I have a rare ocassion of a sugary snack.
2.For your pot belly (no offense) do 100 sit ups the first month, 150 sit ups the second month, and 200 sit ups the rest of how long you want to be in shape every day. Before doing sit ups, i had a belly. I was 25 lbs over weight. it only took me 1.5 months of those daily routines to get me normal. I also jogged 2 miles a day.
3.Make healthy choices. Instead of fattening fries at the cafeteria, get carrots or something healthy.
4.MOST IMPORTANTLY control your portions.
If you want to lose weight, you have no choice except eating about 2000-2500 calories a day. if you eat more than that, and exercise you won't lose weight. Trust me.
5.Go play outside with your friends instead of going on the computer all day. I'm on the computer because i just got home from a 5 mile race.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Walk whenever and where ever you can-even at the mall! Avoid sugary and fried snacks, foods and drinks. Limit white flour, switch to whole wheat.
Eat veggies and/or fruit and lean protein(cottage cheese, cheesestick, lunchmeat) every time you eat.
