I'm a proud Atheist, but there's one thing about it that bothers me...the fact that people can be total jerks and a**wholes, and not get punished for it. I used to think that if people didn't pay for thier evil actions on earth, then they will pay 4 it in the afterlife. But now that I don't believe in that, it kinda bothers me at the thought of certain people not being punished for thier behavior.

So do you belive in Karma? Do you think people who act evil will have to pay for thier actions at some point or another?

I wish karma worked.

But that's life. Sometimes people are wrongly punished and other people get away with murder.

The good news is that the reverse is also true.

If I treat the people I meet with kindness, they will be more inclined to be kind to me. If I treat people around me poorly, that also comes back to me.

I know this is not the true definition of karma, nor does it have any supernatural elements to it. But I do think that in most cases, people will experience the effects of their actions.

Really... you think that they don't pay for their actions.

But they do.

You treat someone bad and you'll get treated badly in return. Its really as simple as that.

Think about it.

If someone cheats on someone else, sooner or later it bites them in the butt somehow. It destroys their relationship, they get sick with a disease, etc.

Everyone pays for their wrong doing because we all live in this world together and we all have to face each other when we behave badly.

Honestly think about it....

Paris Hilton is rich and can have anything she wants right? Well, not really. She has to constantly worry on who is after her for her money and who actually cares about her. And then there's the 'able to do whatever you want thing'. Do you really think that doesn't have consequences? She can get anything she wants, including drugs. But if she takes drugs, what happens? Being rich isn't all its cracked up to be.

There is no consequence free environment unless people choose to ignore the bad things others do.

I don't think that an intrinsic karma-type force of the universe exists, so, no, I don't believe in karma. However, justice systems are a nice way of making artificial karma; punishing people who do things that our society considers wrong.

I don't believe in Karma, but I think you have hit it on the head. We often do not see bad acts punished as they should be and this is why we are tempted to believe in things like hell and karma.

But sadly, the world is not fair, and sometimes good people are not rewarded and bad people are not punished.

No. Karma is a fairytale. There are consequences for every action, but sometimes some people are lucky or shrewd enough to avoid those consequences.

As the others have said - wishful thinking, just like so much of this stuff.

When horrible bastards do horrible things, no one pays them back.

So it's up to you! Cast silver bullets in the sand. When you see these things happen, follow them. Wait until nightfall. Sneak into their homes and cut them down like the atavisms they are.

No...it WOULD be nice, but I don't believe in that. I do think, though, that when you lead a bad life, you HAVE a bad life. Not because of Karma, but just because what kind of a life can you have when you need to be sneaky, you need to lie, you need to hide...etc.?
