What was the reasons why the Japanese decided to get involded in WWII against America? I'd like to know as well if the Japanese and the Germans were allies at any point during the war since they had an enemy in common.
I did study it in school but don't remember and don't have the books anymore.

The Japanese didn't formally declare war against the United States. They filed more like a "Declaration of Hostile Action" and walked out of the Congressional talks over a treaty. The action stated that they were ending negotiations with the United States and would pursue their better interests. It went on to add, if we meddled with their they would use force to protect their interest. The plan was to control large sections of Micronesia, French Indonesia, Indonesia ( new deposits of pacific oil was found), and China. Japan was after the two things it lacked--Iron and oil. Peal Harbor was to be a punch in the eye to stay away--they never had plans to take us over. The Idea was to take out our Aircraft Carriers and large Battleships so that we could not stand in their way. Instead they woke a "Sleeping Tiger". Prior to WWII they traded design plans for aircraft and were friendly to each other---- But, because of the attack of Pearl Harbor; that caused the United States to enter the war; Hitler was upset because he didn't want The United States in the War--- He was not yet prepared to fight that large of war. Why, their enemies were common--their desires and plans were not. They were both egocentric trains of thought and would not share with anyone.

First Germany and Japan wre allies when Japan signed the tripartied pact with Germany and Italy. They attacked us because they saw the American fleet at Pearl Harbor as a threat to there expansion in the far east but there declaration came after the attack.

Japan, Germany and Italy were allies - the 'Axis Powers.'

Japan attacked the US because it's military leaders felt conflict with the US was inevitable, and Pearl Harbor represented an opportunity to destroy the US pacific fleet - a blow, it was hoped, that would delay that confrontation, and leave the US weakened.

It didn't work out that way.

they thought that by bombing pearl harbor they would bomb all of out air craft carriers llucky for us a few were not in port so we still had them for the war. if all the carriers had been taken out then we wouldnt have been able to fight or win the war b/c we needed those planes.
