Say why you want the position, then tell two or three well thought-out things you plan to do (hold a fundraiser for local charity, hold a school talent show, suggest a walk-a-thon for a cause, and if you REALLY want votes, say something the other kids will really like ), like "I want to have an organized 'students take over the school' day - with faculty approval, of course". End with something fun like a neat slogan (such as don't be silly...vote for gilly). Good luck!!

Are you running for a particular office? (Like President?)
On the whole, the speech should include some of your good traits- why you would be a wonderful candidate for Student Council.
1. Dependability
2. Reliability
3. Honesty
4. Hard working
5. Energetic
6. Full of ideas to improve life at school.
7. Cooperative
8. Good grades
9. Can do the work and keep up with school work
10. Your the best person for the job!
Your speech should include some, if not all of these traits.
I served on Student Council back in the 70s. I got in by saying I would be at the meetings, I would get the work done. If you have ideas, bring a few up: something like: movie nights as a a way to raise funds, getting involved in the community, etc.
The kids who ran "against the establishment" got a lot of applause, but weren't elected. The administration has the last say no matter what, so saying that you will "show the man who's boss" may get you applause, but no support from the administration. (Don't burn your bridges)
I hope these ideas help.
Good luck in the election.

You should most definitely persuade your audience by bringing out your strong leadership skills, desire to be a part of school activities, and describe how you can be a great asset to the student council. Don't forget to organize your thoughts clearly and neatly, but still be convincing that you are meant to be a leader!!
